I strated new game after a lot of thinking and difficult decisions.
My party is
me- human Monk
human berserker
human druid
Tashia
Keldorn
As I see the monk does pretty good fights without weapons. With weapons he does almost nothing.

1.Well, he needs weapon or not - any advice ?

2.He can hide in shadows and move silently - why, whats the catch ?

I used little trick for his ability points. As it seems on every reroll the sum of all the ability points is different, varies - 75-84. I used 83 or 82 and I set his str to 3 in order to set his dex, con and cha to 18 and now I bought him girdle (adv mart) what sets his str to 19.

3.My question is does his base str affect something or now I just have monk with hihgest dex, con, cha and str ?

His ac is already -3 (bracers of defense ac 3 + cloack of the sewers + ring of prot. +1)

4.If I use improved invisibility + cloak of non-detection can he be detected by deviation spells ?

<font color="gold">1. Well, one of the monk's strongest features is that he does not have to use weapons. He is a better warrior unarmed, but as his fists "levels up" slowly when it comes to enchantment, you should try to find some +2 or +3 weapons to use as a secondary weapon.

2. No catch. He isn't too proficient with it, though.

3. No, as long as your strength is currently 19, the base shouldn't matter.

4. AFAIK, you should be undetectable with those two factors in play.

I'll be glad to beat Meli with tai-chi It will be very interesting fighting the dragons - just imagine kunf-fu master fights with dragons (real ones)

Fights with dragons end in less than 2 seconds with a monk... perhaps longer... depending on how long it takes for the doom and greater malison to hit the dragon... make sure to stand very close to the dragon, and I'm sure 2 seconds is viable.

Btw, If I was making a monk, I'd take charisma down to 3 instead of strength, it doesn't make much of a difference actually (since you'll want to use a girdle to up your damage output anyway), but Id rather have a monk who no one likes than a monk who can't bench 5 pounds.

BTW Dundee recently told me that 16 is the highest you need to have a monk's CON... apparently there is no difference between 16 and 18 CON for a monk...

Zarr 06-14-2003 05:44 PM

Yes that's correct only warrior classes benefit from having higher than 16 con, the monk is a priest.
