In the Candlekeep dream, where my PC talks to the demon at the entrance and is asked what he will give up to enter, I selected intelligence. After I go through the rest of the dream and the following cutscenes and dialogue, I notice that my monk only has three inate abilities (lay hands, quivering palm, etc.), where before he had eight. I thought it might have been because of my choice in the dream, so I ran through it again and picked wisom to give up, then checked my monk's abilities after I entered the building, nad he still had all eight. But, when the dream ended and I got control of my party again at the start of the asylum maze, he again had just three. Is this a side effect of getting drained by Irenicus in his lab, a bug, or my choice in the dream? Will I get the rest of these abilities back? Don't spoil me too much, just a yes or no is sufficient.

nope, they are gone forever. dont worry, its supposed to happen. ill tell you the reason, if you want

No, that's okay, I'll find out during the course of the game. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a bug or that I didn't screw up, and you answered my question. Thanks.

I'm curious, what do other character classes lose? Does a mage lose spell slots? What about fighters? Are some classes penalized more than others?

Indemaijinj 06-02-2003 01:39 PM

No, you do not lose class abilities, such as Berserk, Quivering Palm and Kai.

The only thing you lose are those extra abilities (the innate Cure Light Wounds, for example) that you have got due to your godly essence.

If you have lost specific monk abilities then there might be something wrong.

Okay, I didn't know that some of those innate abilities were 'spawn of Bhaal' abilities that every class gets. Yes, I still have three innate abilities that are for the monk.

that's the beauty of the game, you mess up at first (youll learn from your mistakes) and then youll know what to do the next time you play the game.
