I'm playing an honestly nice p.c., so I played the Dao all sweet and nice... but does it make a lick of difference, besides the lamp, for whether you just take out the Djinn, or play nice with them?

You get some more experience for killing them than for bringing the head. I am not sure if you will get different reward from the mayor.
