1. How is paladins caster level calculated? IIRC, you can cast spells starting at level 9, so are then consider as a level 1 caster? So paladin levels - 8 = your caster level. Am I correct?

2. *Answer will spoil* I think somebody cast Feeblemindness on me 'cause I can't even remember ever I can get those Gauntlets of Dexterity. So where I can get those? :D My paladin really lacks in dex. part and he's getting his guts cut out because of his miserable AC.

Exactly. For example, if you have a 14th level paladin, your casting level is 6th level (14 - 8). However, it maxes out at 17th level (casting level of 9). It never goes higher than that.

As does the turn undead ability with paladins.

And limited caster levels for Paladins and Rangers were never implented either, they adhere only to the universal Lvl 20 caster level limit, like all other spellcasters. So Holy Smite, AoF and DUHM are all as deadly/effective when cast by a high level Paladin as when cast by a high level cleric.

Maybe for the undead hunter. I remember my cavalier being largely surpassed by Anomen in turning undead. After a certain level (don't recall which) Turn Undead wouldn't level up anymore (stats screen)

But you must rember that wisdom plays a huge factor in this too. For instance, you could have him as a lvl 9 caster but if his wisdom is not 15 he will still be casting lvl 14 or maybe even 14 it depends greatly on wisdom.

As a fan of Cavaliers, and backed up by Jim's and Vedran's testing, I assure you that the Cavalier has no cap on his Turn Undead.

So it would appear that you have a bug, Faceman.

1. IIRC, there is a table in your manual, which shows the casting levels of a paladin. But Rataxes has noted that such things were never implemented. So that I don't know. Is some beta tester around here who knows it exactly?
2. Paladin's Turn Undead level (TUL) = his character level - 2. I've never reached some upper limit for the TUL of a paladin.

Dundee Slaytern 05-27-2003 07:46 AM

Jim has already proven that Cavaliers can summon Skeleton Warriors, which needs a minimum of level 15 for the caster level. So there is no cap on the Paladin's casting level other than the maximum limit of 20.
