dunno.. but you could certainly use IE to check. since he's appeared in the series several times, at least, to aid CHARNAME, he should show up somewhere. and as to his profession, i guess he's officially a fighter/thief/priestess/mage. ;)

and with all the CTRL Q everyone did when the game was first out, no one was ever able to get him into their group that way. let us know if you manage to do it.

...just tried it, shadowkeeper's creature browser lists him... OK:

CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("merlin") works, and OMG does the old man have SPELLS!!! You need to give him a new portrait, though, the one that comes up is too big when you go to his info screen

He has an appearance in the game. Will present you with a NICE item if you have a certain Harper in the party. Most people don't see him though as this particular quest/romance is extremely bugged.
Got ToB? You get to meet Volo there too!

You can see Volothamp in BG1 as well. He's in an Inn in Nashkel.

I believe he has excatly 3 of EVERY spell in the freaking game! Mage/Cleric/Druid spells, even though he is only a level 18/18 mage/cleric(at least the "clua merlin" one).
