So after I went home last night, I installed Solafein. Went just fine. Then I went to download Kelsey. The first HALF of it, the SOA half, took over 30 minutes (where Solafein took only a minute or so). FINALLY done with that, it asked me to export the files. I put them where I wanted them. Began the install. At some point it asked if I wanted the banter between Kelsey and Solafein. I said yes. It gave me an error... it didn't think I'd installed Solafein. So finally I said no. It then proceeded to create some sort of infinite loop that wouldn't stop. And it wouldn't let me quit. My computer promptly froze.

I did this twice. I don't get it, but I'm pretty frustrated and thinking that I may just not bother with Kelsey at all.

Hmm. Try to re-install WeiDu mods or re-install the whole game.

That's because Kelsey includes audio while Solaufein doesn't bother.

Sounds like it's got to the point where it's decompressing the audio files. Let it do its stuff... it might take a while.

</font>
Okay, I'll try it again. I hope that's it. It just looked as though it wasn't accomplishing anything. I admit I dropped out of tech school, where I was actually learning how this works, in favor of a publishing job. So I'm far from an expert.

I've heard only good things about Kelsey, so I really did want to try him out.

*crosses fingers*

<span style="color: lightblue">When your comp isn't doing anything, look to the lights on the box... there should be a green one to say that it's on, and a little red one that flickers alot. If that little red one is still flickering, your computer isn't actually frozen - it's thinking. Don't assume your computer is frozen unless you can't see that it is thinking, cox chances are, it just needs a minute to do something.

Yes, it can take a minute or two to decode the audio, but there should be a window sitting open keeping you updated on progress.

<span style="color: lightblue">But on slower systems (such as my 433 Celeron), it can take a minute or two to make any progress, and so nothing much happens on screen... which many people after a couple of minutes automatically assume to mean that the computer has frozen.

when I tried to install kelsey it all went fine until the very last part where it said it couldn't find my CHITIN file, however I could see it just fine sitting next to my kelsey files. what's up with that?

jcompton 05-24-2003 12:09 AM

That's very odd indeed. Did you change the directory it asked to install to in the first screen?

LennonCook 05-24-2003 04:05 AM

<span style="color: lightblue">Spydar, just a thought... try doing the following:
1. Download WeiDU from here.
2. Extract to BG2 folder.
3. Right-Click&Drag your Kelsey setup exe to your desktop (ie, the one you double click on to install the mod).
4. Rename WeiDU.exe to the same name as the file you moved.
5. Run the new Kelsey setup exe as normal.
6. Tell us if it worked.
