havent played multi-classed characters before, so can i get both(i have a feeling i cant), the cleric and mage stronghold?
|
No you can't get both unfortunately. If you already have a stronghold you are not offered another one so you will have to pick which one you want.
|
Not unless you install a mod.
|
Warning against the mod:
1: It's incredibly buggy. I tried installing it, and was forced to reinstall everything just to get rid of it. 2: When it actually worked, I found another big problem. You're never going to get out of Chapter 3. Think of a messenger scrambling after you when you're out of Athkatla, and this messenger's giving you a notice to get your bottom back to your stronghold to solve some minor problem. After the mod, you're going to get 5 messengers all hitting you up at once, saying to get back to their base of operations. If you don't follow up, you could lose some or all of the strongholds. The game gives you only one stronghold for a reason. ;) Mild stronghold spoilers... . . . nothing major, just general information . . . I found both strongholds to be a little on the weak side. Both are over too quickly, and the cleric one is only fun if you're evil. However, if you're roleplaying a good or lawful mage, you'll be forced into making some ethical and unhappy choices. |
I know about the multiple stronghold mod, but i didnt like it that much. i got too tempted to take all the strongholds, and as you said pirengle, it got pretty frustrating when all the messengers hit me at once. also some of the stronghold missions didnt continue(wonder what went wrong). anyway, i think ill take the mage stronghold, 'cause ive done both and think that the mage stronghold is better(mainly because of a certain ring).

There's at least one stronghold that you can use to get two strongholds for multi- or dualclass characters.
Spoiler ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ If you have fighter as one of your classes, you can do the fighter stronghold quest, and when they offer it to you, tell them you'll consider it. Then go get your other stronghold, which will work as normal because the HaveStronghold flag is not tripped yet. When you go back to the person that offered the fighter stronghold, they will offer it again without the game checking the HaveStronghold flag because of the previous dialogue. This will not work if you get the other stronghold first and then do the fighter's quest, because the first offering does check to see if you already have one. I don't know if other strongholds have this bug, where you can hold off on deciding to take it, and get your other one in the meantime. |
Be warned that the 'method' Olorin described is fixed as a bug in the Baldurdash fixpack.
If you have that, its just not work trying at all :D |

I only pointed it out because I was trying it in this particular game (fighter/mage) and the fixpack buggered it up :(
lol, it happens. And to be fair, it is a bug at the end of the day. |
Hello everybody! Here's a defender of the multi-stronghold mod. I never had major problems with bugs in this mod. Actuallý it was a lot of fun to have the chance to play all the strongholds and go through their quests. If you do one stronghold after the other, you don't have the problem of the crowd of messengers showing up whenever you have other pressing business to do.
Of course you could also experience all strongholds by playing the unmodded game several times with different characters (the way it is supposed to be). But right now it's my 6th time through SoA and ToB and I never felt like playing a bard or plain fighter and probably never will - so I would not have the chance to play their strongholds. |
