I've never really used it all that much because I'm partial to Negative Plane Protection and Amulet of Power but I'm wanting to know how to make the Improved MoD. I know it's from the illithium, so it would be from the Duegar on the temple quest right?

Yeah, that's where you get the illithium from, then take it to Cromwell to forge.

just to let you know, if you want, ALSO get the fake illithium and give it to Sarles, the quest will still work out (just make sure you don't have the real illithium on you or he'll take that instead).

Where do I get the fake illithium?

The girl in the promenade has the fake ore. when you go there, you can buy fake ore from her and also get info on her contact, which is who has the real ore. I dont remember the exact string of choices to say to her to get the fake ore and still get her contact, make a quicksave and just test it out. Just make sure you put the real ore in a container or something before you talk to Sir Sarles or he will take it. Good Luck.
