So I've gotten pretty far in my latest RNS game featuring an F/T and Aerie, far enough to attempt to beat up Firkraag. His dungeon wasn't any problems, but then when it came to the big boss himself, I wanted to try that Magic Resistance -> Lower Resistance combo that is supposed to work so well.

Aerie: Magic Resistance Firkraag

Then his bloody circle disappears!!! Making it impossible to target him with anything whatsoever. He's there alright, happily killing my summons, but I can't target him with melee attacks, can't target him with spells, can't do nothing. I've seen this phenomenon before actually, sometimes happens with some of the eyeless priests you meet in the Beholder lair, but that was triggered randomly by any sort of spell, and they also got their circles back after some time, this didn't happen with Firkraag.

So ehr, I'm usually pretty hard on myself, but there really was no way I could go on with that fight, and I just couldn't bring myself to start all over from Irenicus dungeon because of a bug like this.

Yeah, I've heard numerous reports about this bug with the Magic Resistance spell. It's quite mysterious, but I'm 99% sure it's not retroactive (read: reloading will help). So my best advice is, well.... try again.

Glad to see you havn't given up yet. Same here.

Alright then, well good to know it wasn't isolated to my machine. Beat him in the following attempt where I didn't use the MR spell. God damned thing can kill my F/T in two hits, so I just had him run around acting as a decoy, while Aerie took him down with magic missiles and holy smites. Probably off to the Temple Ruins next, so how far have you gotten now Alson?

Heading off to the The Island.

It's ironic... The Solo-No-Reloads project isn't quite as difficult as I've thought. It took me 5 restarts to get out of Jonnie's Playhouse... But i've only died once in Chapter 2 (Huh?! Killer Mimics can see through invisibility?! http://www.ironworksforum.com/ubb/no...ons/icon26.gif) and restarted, obviously - still on that 2nd game, heading to The Island now. I've came to some interesting conclusions... I think I'll write a big thread about it once i've beaten SoA.

Setting traps around him also does that... once, i set traps OUTSIDE of his viewing range, and he just came up to me "hostile" and slaughtered my solo Assasin... I reloaded, did it again, this time nothing happens~ so, all i can say is, keep on trying! BTW, while he isnt hostile, dont put traps around him!!! It'll attack the red dragon automaticly~!!! Remember!

Yup, I had it happen too .. I actually thought it was a clever little trick that Weimer implemented to make sure you never tried -that- again

That's a pretty time-consuming job when you're no-reload soloing

In a way it's not as hard as it seemed, I agree. Before I started this I was probably one of the most manic reloaders around, so I couldn't see how I was ever going to pull this off, but it's surprising how easily you get used to it. The thing about the Killer Mimic just proves that you don't die to the dangerous enemies, but rather to the seemingly harmless ones who catch you completely off guard. At least half of my deaths with the F/T/M was the result of a lowly Lvl 1 Charm Spell, and the rest were all in situations where I didn't really think I was in danger, until it was too late, such as when I confidently went melee on a group of Imp Beholders in the Unseeing eye with my Shield of Balduran, and two rounds later had been poisoned three times and took 12 pts of damage per second.

So did you do everything in chapter 2-3 before going to Brynnlaw, or was the leave as hasty as usual?

Heh... Even before actually rolling for this character, I knew one thing - she's going to hold the Shield of Harmony for dear life. ;) Eventually replaced Harmony, Amulet of Power and DZB with Carsomyr and the Greenstone Amulet, though.

Yep. I ain't leaving Athkatla without 95% Magic Resistance and Use Any Item.

As usual? I'm impressed!

From what I have heard this is a bug with the "Detectable Spells" component; jcompton knows the nature of the bug better than I and may reply to this thread, but it's not a bug with the original game.
