Did you use any cheats? So far i only installed experience cap remover (i don't consider that a cheat) and now i'm thinking of usin the experience pump and gold increase cheat - keeping in mind that u can summon fiend, kill him and then reast and do it as many time as you want and gain some experience ebey time + pick pocket some stuff and the sell it and do it again - are these really cheats or just time savers? What do you think?

I rarely cheat anymore, though I did do it quite often before. Sure, I use the XP-cap remover, and sure, I have installed several components from different mods which makes the game "easier" to play, but I don't use cheats like the ctrl-cheats, CLUA to get great equipment, etc.

And also, what you describe as pickpocketing items and selling them again isn't really cheating, as the game made it so that you could do so. It is simply to take advantage of the games glitches, which I don't look at as cheats. ;)
Oh, and I don't think you gain XP from summoned creatures. ;)

Time Savers? yeah i see them as cheats - the point is to gain exp and gold by going out and getting into the thick of it, earning it - pumping up your XP and Gold yourself sorta defeats the object of the game....why not just start of as a LVL 50 Fighter/Mage with 1,000,000 Gold...its the same thing....for me it takes away from the enjoyment of the game...

Oh and stuff like the XP Cap remover, Bonus Merchants and some of the other mods make things more fun so i don't mind them

Somewhere or other (in this very forum) I posted a bit of a diatribe on the subject of soi-disant "cheating." Methinks the whole topic should be either banned or made a sticky (moderator's choice, there), since a day rarely goes by without someone looking for permission to "cheat."

Frankly, I see little difference between using a third-party program or exploiting the original code to achieve ends not envisioned by the designers. Both are violations of the game's "intent," insofar as one can talk about such a thing.

Setting that aside, however, the question has always seemed a bit of a non sequitor to me. We play these games to enjoy ourselves, in competition with no one. How is it possible to "cheat" in that context? Whatever enhances the experience for the individual playing is approximately the opposite of "cheating," IMO.

The retort to this is usually something along the lines of "when you cheat, you cheat yourself, depriving yourself of the enjoyment that comes from playing the game 'legitimately'" (whatever that means). This response carries with it the prior assumption that all individuals derive the same enjoyment from the same activities, which is nonsense. Like the song says, different strokes for different folks.

I don't cheat. I try, but find myself unfulfilled and begin a new game or reload an older one very quickly. Some games are made more interesting with cheats, read: GTA3. BGII is not one of these.

Aye, what you say is true Mal. I have cheated in the past when playing other games (and probably will again at some point) - just depends on what you do really, if its nothing to major then i don't mind. I've just met people who have boasted about completing a game several times over, only to find that they've used a save game editor to max out their character and waltz thru the game.

I've started making items - and that can be called cheating, but i don't overpower them really and don't always use them in games.

Since bragging rights are of no interest to me, whenever I read one of those posts where the writer claims to have beaten the game running a solo (fill in the blank) armed only with Balduran's Butterknife, I just laugh and move on to something of substance.

importing items = the best way to cheat....but i find myself trying to limit the number of imported items since easy killing becomes boring...(no way!)

The romances is what keeps me still playing funnily enough...trying to get all of them...
