Just out of idle curiosity, what's the fastest anyone bothering to read this post has ever gotten to Chapter 3? My current record is 17 (game) hours, but surely someone has done better than that. And the fastest to Chapter 4? I've done it in 3 (game) days, which ought to be easy to beat.

It should go without saying, of course, that I am only interested in those who have reached those chapters without using cheats to add money or experience to their party members.

<font color="gold">Never tried to go through the game as quickly as possible, but I still think I've managed around 10 hours when going to chapter 3. To chapter 4, I Have no idea. ;) </font>

Done it in 11 hours once, but rushing through like that is really tough with the Imp Ilyich Mod. Usually I take about 2 days to pay Gaelan. That one time I also reached Chapter 5 in 8 days. Would've gone faster, but sailing to Brynnlaw seems to take several days.

There are going to be some major spoilers going on in this post...

...so if you haven't finished the game, don't read any more!

How in the heck can you do the Underdark with a low-level party? Do the enemies become easier? (Mind Flayers that only look at you menacingly and nibble on your hairline, for example? ) Or is it easy to level up in the Underdark? Or do people skip everything in the Underdark?

<font color="gold">It isn't easier, but it isn't that hard either. If the only quest you do before you go to the Underdark is Trademeet, you'll get good equipment, enough money, and much XP. The de'Arnisse Keep is also a good card, seeing as it holds the oh-so-powerful Flail of Ages +3.
Every time I've headed off to the Underdark right away, I've gone solo, so it haven't really been much of a problem. </font>

STRANGE BUT TRUE....</font>
 • The game seems to jump to "Hour 8" of game-time when you emerge from the Dungeon, even if you zipped through it.</font>
 • There is enough money in Jon's Dungeon and the Promenade to amass 15000 gold before even starting Chapter 2. In fact, you can do it without even doing the Circus Tent or pickpocketing folks. You'll have to sell off a lot of equipment, but not the really useful stuff such as the Helm of Balduran.</font>
 • Chapters 4 and 5 are a doddle, even for a really low-level party. Apart from the one difficult enemy, you get to plow your way through such amazingly difficult foes as Kou-Toa, Myconids, and some low-level Illithids. You don't even have to slaughter a whole city of weak-ass Drow if you don't want to.</font>
 • After leaving the Underdark, you can always return to take out the few stones left unturned, such as the Illithid City or the Beholders.</font>
[ADD:] I once burned through the early parts of the game so fast, I'd already made it back to Athkatla in Chapter 6 before I ever--EVER--Rested. (The ship to Brynnlaw counts as a free Rest, although the "Rest until Healed" script does not fire.) [/ADD]

Not quite so, emerging from the dungeon always kicks you forth to Hour 7, no matter if it has to skip ahead 23 hours to do so. So if you exited the dungeon on Day 2 Hour 9, you'll emerge on Day 3 Hour 7. But if you exit on Day 1 Hour 7, you wont miss any time at all.
