I've heard alot about people making their own items, this is a bit of a broad question! but what does it involve? do all the items in SOA have their own file containing stats etc?
As i've been toying with the idea of creating one or two weapons - nothing stupidly daft and powerful...maybe a Sword Of Smiting +50?....no only kidding! Thanks for any advice... Oooh! and i am fairly clued up when it comes to PC's and such, so don't worry about cutting out any jargon! just tell it how it is and i'll get there eventually |
Take a look at this site... It has a lot of info on modding, including items editing, spells, etc.

Best place to start is at http://www.teambg.com. Read their tutorials, check out their downloads for the Infinity Engine Explorer Pro (IEEP).
As TeamBG suggests, modifying item files for items already present in the game is a good idea. You can find some of these .itm files in the Override folder in your BG2 directory, but if you can't find what you're looking for, you're going to need a .bif extractor to get the item files. (Just about everything I've referenced mentioned the wonderful Biffstripper tool, and I can't find it anywhere! :( Does anyone know where this file is?) A word of warning: if you didn't understand anything in the above paragraph, you're going to have a tough time itemmaking. It took me several posts at TeamBG to even be able to say that, let alone understand it. ;) |
Make sure you download the following files:
(all TeamBG) - TeamBG VB6 Package - WinBiff v1.2.2 - Infinity Engine Editor Pro v1.0.9 Build 40 This will cover all the programs you need to get started to creating your own items/weapons/spells Upload an excisting *.itm file and see how the weapon works, start out with a simple weapon and advance to higher levels everytime you think you understand a part. The TeamBG Item making tutorial is great to get started (the link Pirengle gave you) If you have questions about how to use IEEP or other files, ask here or on the TeamBG Forums. |
You people use WinBiff? It is ugly, useful for extracting many files fast.
Use NearInfinity or Infinity Explorer. [ 04-14-2003, 03:29 PM: Message edited by: Vedran ] |

Ha, i remember the first time i tryed to make an item... :( lets just say it didnt work out too well :D
I downloaded all the right stuff for making spells (which is a bit harder), Items, and NPCs. I had a idea of making a new merchant and an Assasin NPC.. heh but they kinda got sent to the recycling bin prettty fast :D Guess creation for games isnt my thing.
