How usefull is the racial enemy ability?

Ah yes i like these kinds of non technical questions!!

Well the racial enemy ability gives you damage bonuses against those enemies.

You can sometimes get +4 attack bonuses against say Hobogoblins(your selected racial enemy) whereas anyother type gets normal....

You know, I never had any real problems with spiders....Ogre Berserkers tend to be more of a pain for me, as they seem to have a pretty good THAC0, and they do a hellava lot more damage. And there's what, maybe SEVEN Sword Spiders in BG1? I dunno, personal preference, I guess.

Well, the spiders in cloackwood always seem to give me a lot of trouble.

That's because you let them get too close. My party looks like this:

Guy with bow
Guy with bow
Guy with sling
Great big invincible guy with sword
Girl with bow
Guy with bow

Of course, this team seems to work gerat against ANY enemy.....I could choose Gibberlings as my Racial Enemy and still kick the same amount of ass.

Yeh, there is no big beal about the Swordpiders - you just cant walk without thinking - I mean there are a lot of that web traps and spiders are in two-s or three-s, but if you use invisiblbe/stealh scout and kill one by one there will be no problem a all. (You could also push skeletons to trigger traps but they are poor agains slashing weapon and in case od swordspiders there is no big use of them - but for other spiders skeletons + party archers are sufficient)
