Can a Mage/Thief use bows and does backstab work with missile weapons or only close quarters weapons?

My Half elf Thief/mage uses Short bows...


Backstab is done with long swords,shortswords and staffs(I think thats it)

how about thrown daggers?

I think backstab only works with some close combat weapons (daggers for instance)
