Im almost thru with my BG1 characters game. I just wanted to know if there are any items that carry over from BG1 to BG2 like the golden pantaloons do. I also read somewhere that your actions in the past have some bearing on the outcome of certain quests in BG2, like Xzar, Coran or Drizzt or sumthin. Feel free to spoil me, and thanks in advance for the hep.

If your protagonist has the Claw of Kazgoroth (sp?) in his inventory when imported to BG2, then he'll find it in the first dungeon. In addition, if you killed Drzzzt in BG1 he won't be very friendly to you in BG2.

What Desuma has said is correct. Note, however, that you should NOT carry over the Claw of Kazgaroth, unless you actually prefer it to the Helm of Balduran.

while only the pataloons and the claw actually carry over depending on if you had them, having recently played BG1 again after god-knows how mnay years I noticed an aweful lot of items DO make a return in BG2 reguardless of if you even have the 1st game, eg helm of balduran (which I dont think I had ever found in BG1 until this time)
btw, whats with the stupid claw anyway ? what's the significance of it carrying over, and why does it cancel out the helm of balduran ? |
The Claw is actually a pretty good item. I like it.

If the Claw is carried over, it is found in the container where the Helm is otherwise.

ok let me rephrase it.
I know why the pantaloons can be carried over from BG1 saved games... why can the claw be brought over ? it's the only other item Ive heard of that can, why it? |

IIRC, there is a trick to keep all your items on your protagonist when starting a bg 2 game from bg 1.
All you have to do is pause the game 1. before the dialog with imoen starts (is that evil possible?) or 2. pause it before the game autosaves, and all your items will still be on you. just drop them to the ground and you can pick em up after you get control again. |
The dialogues you encounter with most re-appearing NPC's have a "hey, I met you in BGI..." option as well as a "who are you? we've never met..." option no matter what you did in BGI. So, you have the option of playing "in character" & answering like you should for people you've already met, but you don't have to, you're not forced to, & you get no new dialogue (or quest) options if you do.
EDIT: Some characters assume they met you in BGI even if they didn't. - Imrahil [ 03-29-2003, 12:33 AM: Message edited by: Imrahil ] |
