Help! My wife and I both have had this problem. Either going down the trail with the Spell Hold Ward Stone or getting the Pirate King to "commit you", we both get the same thing. The machine locks up when the "loading circle" is complete, and then we get a message about a "fatal error".

We have some mods loaded, (Shadow Keeper, Ex Point Uncapper, & Darkest Day).

I have un loaded the game and we have both restarted it, and trudged back to this scenario, (thinking there was a load error.)

Any problems like this before?

Well, I didn't get the exact same problem with a game of mine, but I did have a problem that when I went to sleep and the first dreaming sequence started, the game would stop loading at a certain point and would not go on. Really frustrating, and IIRC I had to reinstall the entire game before I could continue on.

Question Do you have both the Bioware patch and the Baldurdash fixpack installed? Try installing them if you haven't, and see if the problem is solved. If already installed, or the problem is still present, take the desperate measures:

 • Uninstall Shadows of Amn (and Throne of Bhaal if you have it installed). Don't worry about the save games, they will be kept if you uninstall it, but if you want you can always enter the save games file and make a copy of them.</font>
 • Reinstall in the good order. This means installing Shadows of Amn first, Throne of Bhaal (if you got it) second, then the official Bioware patch, then the Baldurdash fixpack and lastly mods. Start with the WeiDU mods, and end with the other ones (seems to be important as well)</font>
I think that should solve the problem Good luck!!

Crashing upon entering Spellhold and crashing during a Rest have one very important thing in common: They both involve movies.

My computer has a very common problem--when playing games, the sound frequently cuts out. If this happens during a movie, the whole system locks up and I have no option but to Restart completely. As a Band-Aid remedy, I do this: Before a movie is supposed to play, I Alt-Tab out of the game, pull up Media Player, and start playing an MP3. This "clears the computer's throat," so to speak, and keeps the sound from locking up. You might try th same thing.

Of course, the Spellhold movie itself might be corrupted, and since you say reinstalling the game didn't work, your CD itself might be scratched. I would suggest finding a friend who has a non-scratched copy of that particular disc, and burning a copy of it.

Thanks guys,

This gives me a place to start, or finish. I am also going to buy another
copy of BG2, so we can play on our LAN. So between one of your answers I ought to figure it out.

Of course if I don't, I'll ask again.

Thanks again.
