I just got a cool idea for an all-user created party that you can make by using multiplayer. You make a clan of druids or something. That would be a really cool roleplaying game. They would all be neutral, of course, and would feel the responsibility to keep the order. It would be up to you to do this, I think that would be a cool roleplaying oppertunity. It would also be challenging because you would have only a very limited amount of mage spells (IIRC one druid kit can cast a few mage spells) and NO THIEVES! You could dual some of them to fighters and make them kind of like tanks, or you could use your shapeshifters as tanks by changing them to werewolves, so that would take care of the tank problem. But, NO THIEVES! Tough. You'd pretty much NEVER run out of healing spells though. =)
You could also do a guild of thives, a clan of barbarians, an order of Paladins...and so on. I also started a Lord of the Rings game. My party consists of Aragorn, (leader) Boromir, Gimli, Frodo, Legolas, and Gandalf. I used shadow keeper to give them some normaly unnatural ablities (Legolas has like, 21 Dexterity, but about a 6 constitution. =) Also, Gimli has about 20 strength and constitution but about 6 Dexterity and Charisma.) I know I may have been beefing them up too much, but the point is not to make it a huge challenge, just to have fun playing with my favorite LotR characters. Any other cool ideas for an all user-created party? |
Create a balanced party. I'm currently playing with following party and it has been fun:
Human Fighter Elven Archer Dwarwen Priest of Helm Elven Swashbuckler Half-Elven Mistrel (TDD Bard-Kit) Human Wildmage This kind of party can be very, almost too powerful. For example, here was a thread about the lich from the imprisoment machine with whom somebody had some difficulties. With this party I whacked me in seconds. Fighter and my swash are my tanks and archer raining arrows for backup. One minor.. should I say bad side with this party; the game is almost too easy (playing with core rules). P.S. Off-Topic question: Does rangers have greater hit dice than fighters? My archer has more HP than my fighter although his constitution is (one) lower than fighters. I guess I could check it from manual but I don't have one at hand right now. |
The problem is that there are no real opportunities for roleplaying in a party with no NPCs, since the small amount of roleplaying that does exist in the game comes from NPC interaction. Unfortunately, this game does not lend itself well to multiplayer, unless you are playing it for its hack and slash appeal.

I wouldnt recommend a only PC party... im playing one currently (ranger dualed to cleric from start, elven swashbuckler, half orc barbarian, and half-elf conjurer), and lately im not having much fun... no interaction at all, and i chop anything to pieces into seconds, and if its too hard, just time stop and improved alacrity and cast almost every spell.
Im thinking on starting a new party (an evil one as ive never finished the game evil) consisting on two PCs (kensai dualed to mage and some kind of thief, probably an assasin or a kensai dualed to thief) and the evil chars: Vic, Korgan and Edwin. That leaves 1 slot (that will allow *that* NPC you meet on ToB to join), during SoA ill probably bring Yoshi or Jan, dunno. I hope ill have more fun with this (once i had Vic and Korgan together for some time and it looked like they have some nice dialogues). Anyway i wont stop playing the only PC party... i hope ill finally play all ToB through... ive had it for months already :D |
If you have to, make it something novel.
I have a party entirely made up by Half-orcs and another entirely made up by small-folk (BTW halfling barbarians own). |
There's also the option of making a party using the oft-forgotten NPCs in the game. Try this one on for size:
PC (thief or mage) Valygar Cernd Aerie Haer'Dalis (Yoshimo/Imoen or Edwin/Jan, depending on PC) |
