Hey everyone!
I'm wondering, why doesn't magic resistance affect party-friendly spells?
'Cause I think it would be more fun if you would have items that raised your MR by, say 30-50 % each but then it also affected party-friendly spells.
'Cause the way it works now it's just plain boring

Well this post didn't make much sense, but anyway, the question people ;)

You probaly saw this thread.

In BG the MR was also used to prevent buffing your party members (I know this of own experience), but I did not encounter a fizzeld buffing spell in BG II, though what Thorfinn pointed out in the link above... that they just made it cheesyer that MR is neglected when it come's to buffing spells.

Any other opinions/comments around here about buffing spells ignoring MR?

Get BG1. Recruit viconia. Have viconia heal herself. Scream in frustration.

Heh... * raises hand *
The intelligent gamer would know who to use this to his/her advantage. ;)

For example - the level 2 Arcane spell Strength was originally designed as a buffing spell, and as such, it ignores Magic Resistance. Now, you know all these pesky 100% Magic Resistance, 24 STR Golems? Voila! Be amazed as they suddenly hit less, and hit weaker. ;)

Another example - the ever-cheesy casting of the *buffing* spell Magic Resistance on enemies in order to actually decrease their resistance.

There are many examples... it's all about finding the right spells.

Although, not realy such a hard-to-find tactic, or one that is caused by a bug (as many people over time have said it is)... infact, it`s fairly obvious with a bit of insight, if you read the spell description.

I remember, in my first BGII games, several spells and 'green' scrolls failing due to high MR. I think this was fixed by the Baldurdash fixpack, to prevent situations like:
-Mind Flayers who can't heal themselves because of MR
-Bunch of items with special abilities that wouldn't work because of the same (Helm of Brilliance, Adjartha the Drinker, Soul Reaver f.i.)
-And so on...
