My BG2 party is Me (wild mage), Jah, Minsc, Yoshi->Imoen, and Vic. For my last character, I'm thinking it would be smart to go with another tank. My options are Valygar, Mazzy, Korgan (though he'll leave my good party), and possibly Anomen. What would compliment this party best? I should note that I'm tempted (trying to resist the urge) to rearrange weapon proficiencies for Valygar (move his spear points) into something more sensible. I'm already planning to do it for Minsc, Jah, and possibly Imoen to change them into what I finished BG1 with. Thanks.

Valygar ROCKS with the Impaler.
Tis a pity you plan to change that. |
I'm a big believer in Mazzy, as long as you get her before you are too high in level. You already have a couple good front-liners in Minsc and Vic, and Mazzy provides phenomenal covering fire, and can grab her sword and step in as needed.
The rest of your party is not good sneak material, so you would be wasting the best of Valygar's abilities. Valygar is a great person to have going along in a Duo, if your main character is a little sneaky -- jester, bard, monk, heck, even mage. BTW, if you have Weimer's Upgraded items mod, you can get yourself a pretty hefty throwing spear pretty shortly out of Chateau Irenicus, though it is non-trivial if you have his Tactics mod, too... |
I should mention, I don't plan on using any mods.
I know Valygar would own with the impaler, but you get it rather late in the game, and I think he'd be much better dual wielding katanas and something else. Even if I put the 2 spear points into maxing out two weapon and the other in dagger, he'd probably be better off. Though with that in mind, I have no idea what I'm going to do with Jah. I'm going to edit out her sword and shield style most likely (she didn't have it in BG1) so I'll have that point to reallocate. I'm tossed between two weapon (belm + something nice), two handed weapon (there are some nice staves in the game, and the impaler later), or stick with the single handed weapon and shield for extra defense (her strong point). I doubt I'd do two weapon only because it would take 9 levels just to max out two weapon fighting (6 if I put the extra point into it). Sword and shield will strengthen her already great defense, making her more untouchable. Then again, with her already strong defense, two handed weapon might be a better idea for some extra offensive power (not to mention making shillelagh a more useful spell, though this isn't a clincher). The down side to this is that all the two handed druid weapons are staves and spears (pretty much all 1d6 base damage), which scimitars are 1d8 base. if you want another tank, i'd consider keldorn, give him a big 2-handed sword, a good armor, the guantlets of dexterity, and watch him go to town. Plus you'll never need to memorize true sight or dispel magic

Keldorn is a good choice, but StarVid is not planning to use any mods...

i'm 100% sure he is not

Check out his roster of NPCs...
[EDIT] Minor Spoil *I am pretty sure that without the Happy Party Mod, Vic and Keldorn will not get along. Or was that Vic and Anomen? I have never had Vic in my party since the very first game, but I'm virtually positive I had to have only one or the other.* [/EDIT] [ 03-14-2003, 02:31 PM: Message edited by: Thorfinn ] |
Yeah, what Thorfin said is correct. Otherwise I would take Kel.
