I have played or am playing:
Stalker (NG)(finished ToB) Thief/Fighter (NE)(dual - Th is later) (Currently seek Rynn Lanthorn)(note this character is not really evil b/c being NE he always does what is best for himself, which is usually the *good* thing) Kensai/Mage (LN)(dual - Mage is later) (Currently running about 5 strongholds which are keeping him exceedingly busy and have delayed siding with either Thief Guild in Athlatka). I want to start a new campaign. It will include some mods - maybe TDD (which works with Weimer mods???) My moded version is on another drive, so no worries. Advice for characters to play?? Cavalier seems cool, so does Archer. I don't think I could stomach being a bard. I'm thinking if I don't play a thief I'll try to use the "Flesh to Stone in Brynnlaw" tactic on a certain "friend." Anyway, which is most fun? Is a SORCERER fun? Is it too much like a mage? I usually shy away from this because I consider BGII to have a better repertoire of spell-casting NPCs than tank NPCs. All replies appreciated. ;) |
If I were you, I'd try a magic caster. You've already tried fighting your way through SoA and ToB, so maybe magic will show a different side of the story (other ways of beating the enemy).
I'm currently trying the fighter/mage, who is doing just fine. And as you mentioned yourself, a sorcerer could be fun too, but I haven't tried that yet, so I can't tell. |
Sorcerers are extreme fun, especially with ToB .. as you're insanely powerfull.
This allows you to play with enemies,.. be creative .. and also the added bonus of all those pretty sparkles and explosions that fill the screen after a time-stop ( have the auto-pause after spell is cast on to maximize your spell-output during a time-stop with Improved Alacrity ). There's the slim chance of getting bored with it .. but with all the new mods and it being your first sorcerer I'd say go for it |
play a ranger/cleric

SORCERER ALL THE WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
xEN |
A wild mage with nothing but Reckless in your 1st level slots.
By the way, Chaos Shield is for wussies. :D |
Wild Mage (I'm planning to create one in my next game... love to see those wild surges), Sorcerer... they are Powerhouse!!
It's a little borring when a Time-Stop stops and all your oppenents are destroyed but... sometime's it give's you that al mighty Bhaal feeling when you do that :D . Go for sorcerer.. ;) [ 03-12-2003, 12:52 PM: Message edited by: Annatar ] |
Strongest magic-user = sorcerer
Strongest melee = ranger/cleric ( 100+ physical resistance, ironskins, kai-ability with extra features that lasts a long time etc. ) |

Well.. to be honest I sortof forgot the fighter/mage
Although a ranger/cleric is probably protected from more stuff -longer- .. thats hardly a bonus since a figher/mage doesnt fight long fights. I guess a well played fighter/mage would indeed be more powerfull against most SoA and ToB enemies .. although I'd be interested to see who wins in a 1 on 1. Ranger/cleric <---> Fighter/mage I'd go for the ranger/cleric personally .. if well decked out, I see very little oppertunities for the Fighter/mage to hurt the ranger/cleric. But I'm anxiously awaiting your reply [ 03-12-2003, 02:54 PM: Message edited by: daan ] |
