Irenicus was an Elven Mage who was quite powerful and had a lover named Ellesime. Alas, Irenicus' sister corrupted him and made him abuse his powers. Irenicus sought to drain the Tree of Life for his own purposes, but the Elves managed to stop him in time.

Ellesime banished Irenicus and his sister, removing their Elven soul in the process. Bodhi sought to reclaim it through vampirism but failed miserably. Thus the reason why Irenicus and Bodhi wants YOUR soul, and Imoen's soul.

Irenicus then made a deal with the Drow. The Drow would help him take over the Elven city so that he can reattack the Tree of Life, while the Drow get to destroy their hated kin.

You defeat him of course, and Irenicus is buried six-thousand thousand feet under in a pit of molten lava.

Maybe i'm being a sadsack here but why can't you wait until it is revealed in the game. When i first went through, i found Irenicus' story to be the prime motivator for going through the game. It is a long and sad story which is gradually revealed as you follow the plot. Why do people have to know how these things end before they find out for themselves?

*applause* Well said... At first I couldn't stand the character, and I'm sure that's what the game makers wanted people to feel; complete detatchment and hatred for the 'bad guy'. As the story went on, I almost started respecting him... especially after this comment by the Coweled Wizards:

"Why was this man not gagged? Did he not slay four of you?"
"We dared not approach!"

How can you not develop at least a LITTLE respect for the guy after that? As the story unfolded, I slowly started to relate to the character, and even feel sorry for him... in a 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' kinda way... anyone who goes thru all that crap isn't THAT bad a person, are they? And yes, in the end, I almost wished I could have helped him after watching the ending sequence. (tho I'm sure my paladin felt quite differently)

But that's just me... maybe I'm weird in that I like watching a movie and seeing the end myself. I'm not one of those people who knows the other person in the room saw it, so I keep asking "Who's that? Why did they show him?" Kinda takes the fun out of it eh?

I kindda dislike the "fix" that makes all the dreams and so on, with Irenicus shorter. I liked them for the roleplaying...althought they were boooooring sometimes

Maybe some people are confused on his story or maybe they're just inpatient.

hell nah..... my main motivator was definatly finding irenikus simply for capturing both me and my sister... you see,to cross me is to call out your death.

find out about my potential, and offcourse get back my sister... she is my sibling afterall.

later on my motivation was definatly getting my soul back and maybe even more ... watching him wither away at my feet

yea yea so i get carried away
