If anyone can disprove this, please do, but I think it's an interesting bit of information to talk about. I just slaughtered Lord Alibbakar without giving him the mantle, and suffered no loss of reputation. The slaver guard by the door of the slaver compound can also be killed while not hostile suffering no loss of reputation nor attention from the guards. I think it is fairly safe to say that if a character could possibly engage you through something legal you did or said, you may kill them at any time and suffer nor reputation loss or otherwise harsh consequences.

It's true. You can every priests in the temple of Lathander in the temple district and suffer no reputation loss or consequences. I think you can do it in the temple of Talos and Helm, too.

Does this also work if you attack & kill Alibakkar's rival (what's-her-name - the lady who also claims the mantle) ?
Also wondering: if you were to cast a DetectEvil, what alignment would Alibakkar and the slaver guard turn out to be? I've attacked non-hostiles before, by being Lawful Good and casting DetectEvil and deciding to purge nastiness wherever I go. I've never lost rep points for that. Bet the slaver guard is evil, but I didn't think Alibakkar was evil, just greedy. |
Well, I don't think that matters. The preists obviously aren't evil, and you can kill them.

I have attacked both sides at the same time during this battle with no rep loss. |
As a matter of fact, you can cheerfully slaughter practically the entire Temple District and suffer not a whit of Rep. loss. Temple of Talos, Temple of Helm, Temple of Lathander, even the High Hall of the Radiant Heart! As long as you don't actually kill a Commoner, you're sittin' pretty! (Note: "Innocents" may still turn hostile to you if they see you attack a "Non-Innocent." Turn off your AI.)
Not all Evil characters can be summarily disposed of. Joluv, for example. A good indicator of whether of not they're classified as "Innocent" is whether or not they're holding a weapon. |

spoiler ahead * * * * * * * * * * * Working for mae'var, he actually had me steal the golden statue from the temple f lathander, causing the whole temple to go hostile. so of course, i killed them all |
Right... so lemme get this straight. If it *isn't* a civilian, and you engage some kind of officer, you're golden right? Well, explain this to me then.
I was in the Underdark with Valen, and when I'm in the Lich's house right after killing him, 4 glowing fighters appear. First I think, whoa, what's this? Then they explain to me they're here to kill Valen and beride of her evil and so forth. They weren't civilians right, I killed them and managed to get Valen to survive, but I lost 16 REPUTATION POINTS. Just for defending a party member? This isn't justice!
