are there any effects from actions taken in BG1 that carry over? Like killing certain people, or pick pocketing drizzt?

Drizzt is the only one that may affect BG2.

1/ Calling yourself Drizzt can lead to complications depending on your rep. in BG2

2/ Having his weapons is definitely bad!

3/ You get a choice to say what you did in BG1.

Drizzt has his own elite party in BG2 with his tough panther, Cattie the Archer, and Bruener the fighter.

Also what happens if you pickpocket him in BG, but sell the items before transferring to GB2

If your rep is to low, he'll attack you for spoiling his good name. And if you sold his weapons in BG then i don't think you have to worry about it.
