Self made party:
Sorcerer, 4 Wild mage's and ( for the moment.. minsc )

-Irenicus'toko-

Poor minsc had been dealing with quite a few war dogs and thieves by now, getting stunned, feared and partially frozen .. but survived.
I had finally positioned several Skull-traps on good locations .. defeated the Neophyte glabrezu and locked the jailergolem behind a door.

Illyich was in pursuit of my hasted mage, down the corridor into the big circular room where the Greater Otyugh used to reside.
I was offcourse ambushing him and his party. They had allready survived about 8 - 9 skulltraps with most of them and their HP not really caring that much.

Final face off in the circular room !! Their cleric ( I think ) cast symbol:Fear. Everybody except the cleric and 2 of my mages are affected and run everywhere. Which is actually a good thing, since they run into another deposit of about 6 - 7 skulltraps. No enemies dead yet, but its getting there.

My two mages the only ones who have control over themselves ( cleric's dead ).
Sorcerer casts Greater Malison, Wild mage casts Emotion.

I'm happy, 'cause this is about to work ....

Wild mage: Wild Surge - Silence 15'radius
Story ends quite son after that..

I cry myself into passing out

Ouch! You have my sympathy.

If you can somehow sneak into the air mephit zone and pick up the scroll of summon air elemental, one wild mage can go to town with that and NRD. :) Good luck with your skull trap strategy.

LOL! Welcome to the world of Wild Magic. :D

What difficulty level are you playing? With 5 spellcasters + 1 tank, you should expect to clean house.

They survived 16 Skulltraps?!! :D

Was a long time since I last used Skull Traps vs them, but I recall them dying to 7-8 when I soloed with a sorcerer*

*Thought it would be a breeze, but the fact is that soloing a sorcerer through that place without resorting to Skull trap cheese proved a task too mighty for me

daan 02-03-2003 02:55 PM

Just plain normal actually ,.. didnt expect them to survive 15 - 17 skull traps though. I'll load up some minor sequencer's with Magic missiles to complement I think
5 x 2 x 4 x 1d4 (I think ) = 40d 160
Oughta take care of a few of them anyway ....

Though I'm not cleaning house just yet .. any suggestions ?

"one wild mage can go to town with that and NRD" english expressions are the death of non-native speakers :( ;)
Someone care to translate ?

EDIT:
Hmmz maybe some skull traps in front .. then 8 webs ( minor spell trigger ) and a greater Malison ... Hopefully a few get stuck and whoever saves gets 3 skull traps and a whole load of magic missiles and MAA ?

Scribe the Summon Air Elemental scroll and then cast Nahal's Reckless Dweomer. Since it's a 1st level spell, you can have several memorized.

daan 02-03-2003 03:02 PM

Scribe it while not high enough level to cast the spell ?
Does nahal's reckless Dweomer give me the ability to cast above my level ? ..
never did get the explanation of that spell ...

Alson 02-03-2003 03:07 PM

Nahal's Reckless Dweomer will allow you to cast any spell from your spellbook, memorized or not. ;) As if that's not uber-powerful enough, Nahal's Reckless Dweomer also behaves like (Chain) Contingency - it utterly ignores alacrity rules - you can cast it as if under the effect of Improved Alacrity!

Check out the Spell Reference for more info about NRD and the Chaos Shields.

Yes and yes. You'll have a chance of setting off a wild surge, so you might want to cast Chaos Shield beforehand - that and be prepared to save and reload to get the desired results.
