I am in 2 minds weather I should do Mae'Var's quest and steal the amulet from the Weathermistress in the temple of the storm god.

I need some advise here.

Regards,

Darren.

uhmm..... why?

in the role playing sense? are you playing a good alligned player?
you need not killer you can also pickpocket her if im not mistaken.

the stuff maevar gives ya to do always has a backdoor for the good alligned people so dont worry.

really? what's the back door for the cowled wizard quest?

True... in fact, just go at night and she'll put it in a chest next to her bed. You can pick the chest's lock and take the amulet without her ever noticing it in the first place. ;)

I believe the explanation for that one was that this Cowled Wizard is even more evil than Mae'Var... Can't recall why exactly, though. But I think it was mentioned at some point in the game.

No, there is no back door. All quests related to Mae'Var are disgusting for a good aligned party (or rather, for a good aligned player). The only "back door" is that you need not show more violence than it is needed:
1. The first Mae'Var's quest: Come at night and steal the amulet from the table (the chest). Note that Mae'Var has hinted that the amulet will be there during nights.
2. The first Edwin's quest: You must kill. No other way.
3. The second Edwin's quest: You can do it without violence if your CHA is enough high and if your protagonist is a female. Perhaps, also WIS or INT has to be high as well? I don't know. Give your protagonist the Ring of Human Influence and the Nymph's Cloak. Have some potions ready and try. You should be able to detect the nonviolent option from the menus...
4. The second Mae'Var's quest: You can do it peacefully. Again, perhaps CHA and WIS or INT might be needed. I am not sure, my protagonist is always well generated :D
At any rate, do the whole quest. You get a considerable amount of money and XP from Renald and some useful items.
Notes:
1. If you plan to side with Bodhi then you must do the quest BEFORE you accept Bodhi's offer.
2. At the end of the quest, you will lose Gorth's shop. Steal all useful items there before the end of the quest. Otherwise, all Gorth's goods are lost for you.

"Goody-two-shoes" versions:

#1: As has been stated, steal the necklace at night. Mae'Var even tells you that she's not likely to wear it in bed.
#2: While it's true that there is no way around killing Rayic Gethras, don't forget that you just watched them steal Imoen from you for no other reason than firing a Magic Missile at a known terrorist, and that the Cowled Wizards as a group are of dubious morality. So while killing Gethras may not be Lawful, it isn't Evil, either.
#3: I don't think you have to be Female to get the documents through a high CHA. You can also pickpocket him, or simply buy them off him.
#4: I don't think any stat requirements are neccessary to get the Good dialogue option here.

.....unless you're a Thief and you accept the stronghold.

Even if you're a thief, you must make sure not to kill him.

I always close the doors between the shop and the rest of the guild to prevent accidents, and come in through the second or third floor.
