i gotta question reguarding the effect that intellegence has on wizzards. inteligence only affects the amount of spells you can learn, correct?? it has no bearing on your spell slots right??

some1 plz help, and cheers to any champ who knows ... im just curious lol

i think, at very high intelligence(16 or higher) you get bonus spells. I don't know how many or anything though

Rockstar 02-02-2003 05:02 AM

thanks. but ultimately a mage can only end up having 9 spell slots per level right?? thats the restriction aint it??

<font color="lightblue">Intelligance has no effect on the number of memorisations of any level. It affects the number of spells of a level that you can write, and at higher difficulty levels you chances of succesfully writing a spell to your mage book. Also, you need 19 intelligance to be able to scribe level 9 spells.
Oh, and ofcourse it affects your chances of surviving a fight against a mindflayer... </font>

Intelligence limits the total number of spells you can learn and your CHANCE of learning them.

e.g. Intelligence 11 gives a 45% chance of learning a spell and 6 spells maximum per level. Intelligence 18 gives a 85% chance of learning a spell and 18 spells per level.

Also, in true AD&D, Intelligence limits the maximum spell level any character could cast.

e.g. Our Intelligence 11 mage would only be able to cast 5th level scrolls at best.

Fortuntately this isnt implemented.

In SoA we do not really need to worry too much about intelligence because of potions that boost this attribute. Simply gulp a couple of potions that boots intelligence and then learn your spells. Presto! Intelligence 24 and 25 give a 100% chance to learn a spell, and any Intelligence 19+ will let you learn all of the spells per level.

Then we need intelligence to survive the mindflayer... but thats another kettle of fish

Oh, and CLERICS get bonus spells based on their WISDOM attribute.

Mages dont. Pretty important not to get this confused.

how did you do that? i thought there was only one book that raised int. in bg,n so even a race w/ an int bonuse(is there one?) would get 20. there are 3 wis books though.

Dace De'Briago 02-02-2003 05:43 AM

lol. You can just import an existing character into BG after collecting the tomes. Play through the game, grab the tomes, then import the character into a new game again.

A little sad really

Rockstar 02-02-2003 06:12 AM

man its not really sad, i used to have a real crap comp that could only run diablo and BG. i actually played through the game 5 full times and then just did a grab to get the last 2 points to say i had 25 intell

ofcorse i toned all my stats down!! everything was basically 19-23 besides wis and int which i left full. i set str all the way down to 14!! and dex down to 16. to make BGII a challenge.
