i am currently playing through the game with an evil party, but my friend who is also playng through the game but with a good party was in the graveyard about to embark on the final battle with bodhi. when she summuned up that squad of vampires, he used the daystar to cast sunray and killed them all. under inspection it seems that one of the vampires took a massive 1040 hp of damage in one go before they died. is this an error or just a huge amount of damage liad down by the forces of good.....?

Sunray does that when the undead fail their save - to ensure they die as they're supposed to. No bug.

you should try sunray in windspear hills. sometimes after you sleep, a squad of shadow fiends appear. i once used sunray and they all took that massive damage. looked kinda cool

I like to call Daystar the Portable Undead Nuke. It is always a great thing to carry around at night, not only does it act like a flashlight, but, it kills those random vampires dead as a doorknob. With out any chance to damage the innocent folks standing around.
Just a hint. There a a few creatures that Sunray works on even though they are not undead. Try it sometime ;) |
It's not a bug - it's just the designers way of bypassing the Undeadish immunity to SLAY effects.
Many Undead monsters are immune to insta-kill effects - a la Vorpal hits, Finger of Death and Sunray's effect on a failed save. To bypass that, and to make sure that the Undead are destroyed on a failed save, the desingers came up with the 1042 damage idea... Quite inelegant, though, in my opinion. |
doesnt it work on all creatures. It just deals extra on the Undead beings.
|
Also works on creatures of Shadow. Hint hint...

It would be cool if you could vaporize that annoying dragon...
