I'm creating a new kit that gets permanent infravision as an ability. I've created a new spell that gives the effect and applied it to the kit, but it doesn't seem to working.

If the ability is gained at a low level (ie, less than the char starts) then no indication of anything is present. If the ability is gained in game at level up then I get the message *charname* infravision, but nothing else seems to happen. I've copied the basic structure from other permanent abilities so I don't understand what the problem is. Adding multiple effects to the spell causes the game to crash during char creation (if the ability is gained at low level).

I've checked in shadowkeeper and the infravision affect is not been applied to a character who has supposedly gained the ability. Has anyone managed to do this? I'm also going to try and do the same with non-detection, if I can get this working.

Cheers!

I can only guess at this. But remember that infravision is not necessary in BG2. It is a AD&D-sbility, but I think they never took it into BG2. Therefore, It shouldn't be displayed in the game either. ;)

I was thinking that it wasn't implemented in the game and that it's purely a lighting effect. I definately notice the difference between selecting a human or elf in the lighting, but I'm really not sure if it does make a real difference.

I'm not so much concerned with whether it gives a benefit or not - I just thought that this kit *should* have infravision...

There is a slight difference, as someone with infravision does see characters better at night. ( sort of a reddish hue .. but almost unnoticable ).
So it doesnt really make a difference,..cant even guess at why its not working though :(

Do you have a character in your party who doesn't have Infravision, so you can compare the two? Go and grab two NPCs--one with Infravision, one without--and select first one, then the other, to test your own character.

Thanks Six - I tried it, comparing "zxc" (the "newkit"), Imoen and Jaheira. zxc definately doesn't have infravision - I still suspect that somehow infravision doesn't actually *do* anything and there's just a lighting effect on the characters with natural infravision. The "spell" I created didn't include the lighting effect (or the icon), but shadowkeeper still doesn't have the infravision effect for zxc.

I think I'll scrap it and move onto the next ability...

I think one of TDD kits has infravision ability, although can't recall which one. Perhaps you should ask them how they did it?
