I am not sure if this is the proper place to post this but here goes anyway..(sorry if it shouldn't be here)
What are your opinions regarding other RPG's, such as: 1) Dungeon Siege 2) Neverwinter Nights 3) IceWind Dale Although I am a long way from completing BGII (and Tob), I would like to know what else is out there that is worth purchasing. How they compare with BGII would be helpful as a common frame of reference. Thanks, Jake |
BG2 beats all of those together.
1) Dungeon Siege - not bad, but character creation should be more than painting. The best of the three. 2) Neverwinter Nights - no party-no fun. 3) IceWind Dale - there is no joinable NPCs and it is so linear that I played it once and only once. BTW, this is my fifth tome through BG2. |
Morrowind is a very cool game, offering just about 100% non-linear gameplay. Although it is far too unchallenging and though it has hundreds of quests, few are very interesting or engaging.
I think it has an even greater modding community than BG2 does though, so all of those drawbacks can probably be remedied easily if you have it on PC. |

You know, its kinda depressing to have games like BG1 and BG2. i mean, how can they ever make better games then these? :( |
Because NWN is not a party game, it kind of makes it hard to enjoy its gameplay and Role-Playing.. Out of 10 i would give it 7.
IWD2 is a great hack'n'slash game.. if you are into hack and slash, then i recomend it.. Out of 10 i would give it 8.5 . |
1) Dungeon Siege - I liked it, but I am a big fan of Chris Taylor in general, so I may be a little bias. Its the prettist RPG that I've ever played. I would recomend not getting it if your into side quests. I can personally remember only one thing that really came to the level of a full fledged side quest. This game does have merits in the multiplayer community, where a lot of work is going into editing the game, and if you want a good RPG to play with friends, and actually want to be able to win, this would be a good bet.
2) Neverwinter Nights - Played it once, didn't care for it. All the chapters seemed to be the same. Collect x number of things, get them together, bring them back to some point. 3) IceWind Dale - I like IWD, I know some BG players don't, and I can understand that. For what it does - Dungeon Crawling - its a nice game. No focus on NPC's in party, but I've never really thought that was so great myself. The first one is probably pretty cheap at this point. |
if you get icewind dale, try to get the collectors edition. It bundles the expansion which is the only way you can get it save ebay and whatnot.

1) DS never really got me. Just somehow I didn't like it. It seemed too much like Diablo.
2) NWN I went through once. I tried to play it second time but lost my intrest. NWN would be much better if it had a party-play possibility. It's boring to play just one character. (Well, not in BG2 but that's different.) 3) I liked IWD most of these three. Perhaps it was because its Infinity Engine game. It was a little bit too much hack'n'slash, but I liked it, although not as much as I like BG. But Baldur's Gate 2 is the best of all. |
