what sort of damage does it deal? Magical?
It seems insanely powerful. When I faced Ka'rashur in the watchers keep and he throw a horde of demons at me I got slaughtered pretty quickly...until Imoen casted Chain Contigency with ADHW x3 that is.. after it triggered there were nothing but a horde of corpses left |
Magic Damage indeed, use potion of Magic Shielding in conjunction with the Belt of Inertial Barrier for complete immunity to it, and many other annoying Magic Damage spells

You can't be more right.
Abi Dalzim's Horrid Wilting indeed deals magical damage, is insanely powerful and works best when chained. |
Do you think it's the best spell in the game?
I certainly think it is!!! |
*cough* time stop *cough*
|
All spells in the game - bar none - are inferior to one single spell.
Project Image. Abi Dalzim can protest, and Chain Contingencies can do nothing but weep. Time will be stopped, but will flow again eventually. Mordekainen can call all his Magical Swords - but they will be slain, leaving their summoning hapless. Even Rapture of the Father will not go untouched. One Spell to rule them all, One Spell to find them, One Spell to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. Seriously... Project Image leaves all other spells miles behind if you're using it anywhere near its full potential. |
Yes well, considering the primary, or rather, intended use of spells, a Project Image falls quite a bit behind
It can't do much on it's own either, no matter how badly you exploit it, has to be combined with other spells or items |
Low level spells can be amazingly powerful if used correctly.
Case in point, Spook. The potential save your arse ability this spell offers is amazing. |

Correct. However, this can be said of any arcane spell that a mage can cast. There are immunities to all sorts of things. That said however, those sorts of magical creatures are rather rare.
Even dragons fall prey to the all powerful Spook spell. For something really fun, try a spell trigger with Spook and Ray of Enfeeblement. The real test of a mage is if he or she survives long enough to cast the higher level spells of power. Using the low level spells effectively can make your life much easier. In a CRPG, this is a little different of course, things are, um, rather broken in more then a few ways. There are many spells that are missing entirely from the game. One is forced to work with what one has, and, even later, when you get the all powerful 9th level spells, even the lowly spells still can be of great value if used properly. |
