Last night I came upon the REAL Firkag. He kicked my puny butt all over the place. Granted I am a level 10 Fighter but I am really well equipped. Tried four times to kill the B^&#$@~ but lost every time. Has anyone out there killed this guy? I was confused when my whole party kept getting thrown back against the doorway. What is that? Horn of Blasting? I really, really, REALLY, need to destroy this beast. My stubborn nature will not allow this affront to my abilities to pass. What would Minsc think if I walked away from something so evil? not to mention Boo. I'm just whining I guess.....

You're probably too low of level to fight him yet... Most BG2 players have beaten him, but it takes a few reloads to figure out the right tactic, and gaining a level or two won't do you wrong. ;)

His "Wing Buffet" attack is what keep launching your team across the room like tennis balls.

If you're that eager to fight him, be sure to protect yourself from his Fire damage. For more info about Dragon Slaying, check out Dundee Slaytern's Dragon Slaying Tips.

Summon monsters and place them + your tanks around him. He'll only attack 1 at the time.
Cast lower magic res. about 3 times.
Cast insect plauge.
Cast other spells (whatever you have available).

That should be more than enough to smack him.

When I took Firkraag out for the first time I used the distraction-magic resistance technique and had my three mages blast him with magic missiles - he went down fairly quickly - though the rod of resurrection got some heavy use after the battle.

Then there is always the harm strategy - if you have a priest with at least one level 6 spell (I think 11th level priests gain access to one sixth level spell if their wisdom is high enough).

Well, I have to admit that I defeated Firkraag the first time by giving in to the lure of the cheese.

After trying legit tactics 12-15 times (or more-finally lost count) and getting my butt thoroughly kicked, I used Jaheira to cast Magic Resistance on him. This actually LOWERS his Resistance because it sets it equal to 2%/level of caster (I think)...so it brought his Resistance down to about 28-32%. The neat thing is that this is NOT considered a "hostile act", so Firkraag just sat still and did nothing. I then sent Imoen forward and had her cast Feeblemind. This IS considered hostile and it took a few more reloads before the spell finally made it past his Resistance and Saving throws.

Once he is "feebleminded", he will sit perfectly still while the entire party slices, dices, and julien-fries him.

Alright....it isn't very noble nor heroic....but being noble and heroic had gained me nothing but a tombstone up to that point.

This time through, however, I've installed the Weimer Tactics Mod....so my "cheese" will have no effect on him now. Even if I hadn't installed the Mod, I wouldn't resort to this tactic again. If all else failed, I would just leave and come back when my party was stronger. (kinda like the party in the Inn at Waukeen's Promenade. If you try to attack them right after Chateau Irenicus, you will probably have your head handed to you on a platter. Fortunately, they are nice enough to stay put and wait for you to gain a few levels.

Right now, I am using my assassin and Yoshimo to go in and Set Snares right outside the door. I then headed for the circus tent and will come back and set MORE snares outside their door after resting. A couple of days rest should give me enough traps to take the lead fighter out completely. ;) )

I used Aerie with all sorts of illusion spells and a wand of lightning(Firkraag got low lightning resistance) plus Jaheira kept summoning all kinds of stuff to entertain firkraag. When he was near death everyone went like WAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGHHHH and stormed him with the strenght they got left, a few of them fell but so did the beast

I used the magical acorns in that battle to summon a few Woodland Beings and a Moose, and aid my fresh Swashie just out of the dungeon. 2x Hold on on the Mage and his Imp, the Moose stalled Mencar long enough for the Nymphs to get off two more holds, on Mencar and the Thief. So that just left Smaeluv, who my Swashie and Moose had no problems taking out. After that I was left with 4 pretty little statues that I could peacefully crush One of them actually came back to life, but a Horror neutralized him as well.

With all said, it obviously took a couple of retries to get all those holds to connect properly. I always do that party first thing after getting out of the dungeon though, no matter how difficult and time consuming it will be

Well, to be honost, it was rather late last night and I was extremely tired. I thought - if I beat Improved Ilyich, SURELY I can take these guys. Probably can, I just ran out of steam.

And I only have 4 party members right now (assassin, Minsc, Jaheira, Yoshimo). This is only my 2nd time through BGII, so I'm not ready to try a solo game yet, but I was thinking of keeping my party at 4-5 members instead of 6 so I could level-up faster (especially my assassin).

Anyway, Yoshimo's traps really worked well the last time through and now my assassin can add a couple more. Since I have to Rest before I can set more anyway, I decided I might as well go ahead and clear out the circus tent. Add Aerie to the party to replace Imoen's lost mage spells and then head back. I DO plan to take these guys out before leaving the Promenade if at all possible. I may send my assassin back up to the fletcher shop and see if I can swipe some arrows of dispelling and arrows of biting. Turn Yoshi into an Uzi. I also tried "luring" the fighter closest to the door outside the room without uncovering the rest of the party. Didn't work. The mage and thief came running to his aid...but the dwarf didn't show up yet.

I'll probably clean the circus up tonight then head back for "Round 2" with those guys.

So it was wing buffet that caused me so much trouble. Thanks guys. All of your suggestions are awesome. I will try and dispose of him again this eve, I have to. Minsc would'nt have it any other way.
