I want the 3rd piece to the Flail of Ages, but I can't get by the golems! Any suggestions for me? Thanks!

Brennihelvete 01-02-2003 07:44 PM

Haste a person, walk up to the chest. Grab what you can, run like hell and shut the door.

Where could I get the 'Haste' spell or an Oil of Speed?

Brennihelvete 01-02-2003 08:02 PM

Well in fact you could do it even without the haste spell, but thats way more difficult. Im not sure if you find any of them items in the keep. Its mainly fire/acid arrows and gold...
You could always try without, but send in a healthy character as he/she will be hit a few times. Equip him/her with a pot of helaing at least. Or you could even use summons to divert their attention...

In my opinion, haste is the most important 3rd (?) level spell. I never go into battle without it if I can help it. Boots of Speed are also a favorite. I'm a player who prefers melee combat, and getting in fast and hitting hard is my favorite tactic. Also useful in this case, you get in, pinch all you can and then as the man said... you run like hell.

in other words, if you don't have a mage with the haste spell... get one. Try any of the merchants who sell mage scrolls, it's pretty common, then learn it.

Well, i suggest you just kill them, you can attack them one by one without hostiling all of them, and if you dont think you can beat the iron golem just run in and run back out like hell (p.s. beware of the clay golem, its harder than the flesh and stones cause only magical blunt weapons can harm it, if you lack anything better cast spiritual hammer). I also found that the iron golem was only sorta difficult but summons for distraction and someone strong wielding the frostreaver axe +3 from that same room will do the trick if you also have a couple guys tossing minute meteors at him, it just take a little while. Oh, and if you REALLY want to avoid confrontation, I think i may have heard somewhere, in this forum even, that you can just cast the cleric spell sanctuary and waltz in and grab the booty, the golems will go hostile but won't see you, unlike a straight up invis spell. i usually take em down for the xp though.

Don't try to steal the items. Just have your party initiate combat with them one at a time.

To defeat the iron golem, place a fighter with an enchanted two-handed sword at the entrance to the treasure room and poke him through the doorway. If done correctly, your fighter shouldn't take a hit.

HTH

EDIT: Decurion may have beat me to it.

Yes, attack them one at a time. They are Golems, and as such, are not sentient. They are programmed to respond to certain condition (ok,ok I know none of the creatures in the game are sentient, but this is a rolepaying angle) and that's it. In this case, the condition is taking the items, so the others won't activate if you attack one by one.

Summons are key - and trapping the largest golem in the door is key as well - don't just take it on full on in the middle of the room.

Killing these guys is a must - the XP is too good to pass up at this early a level (or at any level afterwards either).

These guys have only ever been a pain in the @$$ with improved Golems installed. If you have a fighter in your party, just equip them with a +3 weapon (Lilarcor is good) and take 'em out one at a time. You'll need a weapon that delivers blunt damage for the clay golems though.

With improved Torgal, the third flail head does not reside in the old chapel. You'll still want to kill them, though, as the weapons they guard are too good to go without.
