Dwarven Sapper
Fighter Kit Special Abilities: Gains access to an increasing array of special traps - use typical thief traps, plus delayed blast fireball trap, skull trap, gas cloud traps, etc. Can blow open chests and secret doors, etc. +1 to wisdom, +1 to constitution, +1 to dexterity. Restrictions: Restricted to weapons useful in sapping, such as blunt weapons, darts, slings. Cannot setp traps, sap, etc., while wearing armour heavier than studded leather. -3 to charisma due to heavy scarring from mis-set blasts and traps. |
Actually there is a Dwarven Sapper class of sorts, it's a thief subkit you can find in the AD&D Rogue's Handbook.
They loose 3 points from both int and wis due to the brain damage caused by inhaling toxic chemicals, and, IIRC every 2 levels gained they get a new trap or device. However, no matter how skilled they are, there is always a 10% chance of failure when laying a trap, meaning that the whole party could be in danger. Also, in a very dire situation, they have the option to detonate themselves, killing everything around them. No saves. They can not be raised from the dead if this happens, as there is no body left to raise. |
Excellent. How does one make a new kit, I've modded a little bit with items and new (rudimentary) NPCs.

I've always been intrigued by the mysterious wanderer type characters. The Nomad is a class i first made when playing Daggerfall back in the day. It's basically a bard that can't sing, dance, act or recite. Otherwise it has superior thieving and fighting skills. He's a survivor in a hostile land. In BG2 it would translate to a fighter/thief or something similar.
Nomad: STR - 18/00 DEX - 19 CON - 18 INT - 12 WIS - 14 CHA - 8 Grand Mastery in staves Specialized in knives Specialized in dual wielding Cannot wear armour above studded leather. |
if i could make up a class kit.....hmmmmmmmm
Ninja(thief kit) stats str 16 dex 19 con 15 int 14 wis 10 cha 12 -cant wear armor..... -can become mastery in katana -gets plus 20 to hide in shadow and move silently -moves 2 points faster then normal - every 6 lvls gets +1 more to movement rate -backstab can go up to x6 instead of x5 |

I had bookmarked a site that hide the contents of ALL 2nd Edition Manuals (in downloadable format)....including all the various "Complete Handbooks of ..." series.
These listed several different "kits" for the various classes and races. My personal favorites were the Dwarven BattleRager and Elven Bladesinger. They are both similar to the Beserker and Blade kit available in BGII, but these "race specific" kits had a few extra advantages over the BGII versions. Unfortunately, that site is no longer available. I get the dreaded HTTP 404 - File not found when I try to access it now. There several interesting kits for Rangers and Paladins also. [ 01-01-2003, 09:43 AM: Message edited by: Cerek the Barbaric ] |
