He (or it?) was a total surprise, like a kobold compared to the shadow dragon next door. I was expecting an opponency of at least dragon class. My question is: Does the tactics mod, or any other mod, make him challenging?

The improved undead portion of Tactics will make the Shadows summoned by the alter slightly harder. But nothing will make HIM harder. Then again, having harder shadow's wont be much harder because the whole fight can be won befor the alter summons a second shadow. So the real answer is you can't make him much harder than he is. But I agree he was a BIG letdown.

That not true, Untouchable. That Tactics Mod does beef up the Shadow Lord.
It was quite a surprise for me - i went up there after slaying Thax[snip]la, expecting for that usual trivial four rounds fight against him, and then suddenly, BANG! His Protection from Magical Weapons made my life harder (wastes all my Breach spells on Thax), and Malison followed by Fear and Bliness spells can really havoc an unprepared party. It's things like that which makes play BG2 time after time, after time, after time... |
Yeah, the Tactics mod did beef him up somewhat and if you have Solafein in your party the Shade Lord and Sola have a cool little dialogue where they both ask for help from their respective goddesses. He only lasted seconds though after I hit him with Implosion, ring of the ram, and false dawn. Tell Lloth I said hi. ;)

i think the shade lord was meant to be for the low level party. so i doubt that he could be raised into near a draconia status with the mod and all that.

The game gives you that Wardstone for a reason. ;)
