I'm in the palace and I've tried to hide while the mercs fight it out with the dopplegangers. When it's over, Saverok tells the mercs to kill us all and I assume I "lose the game." Has anyone else tried this with the same effects? I assume I have to get into the fight with everyone else and defend teeh last two Dukes...

So does anyone have any strategies for fighting that won't "turn the mercs and Dukes red" and come after me? Has anyone targeted Saverok in the fight before taking on the others?

Any general strategies for this fight?

Your assumption is correct that you need to defend the two guys that are to be killed by Sarevok's lackeys.
The way I do it is that I send two of my party members in to defend the two innocents in melee combat. I send my best over to Sarevok, with a healer right behind him. Tht leaves my thief in the corner to shoot arrows or sneak around and backstab whoever she chooses, and my mage is also keeping a distance, altenating attack spells (not eara effect spell, because that will hurt the people I am saving). </font>

A very good tactic in that party is summoning some monsters, then cast haste. With your party and lots of monsters hasted, it shouldnt be too hard.

Do you try to keep your promise and spare Saverok or do you just try to torch him?

Just roleplay... follow the evil or the good path, its your choice...

He, he.. it is not the final battle. In my game fight didnt start before my PC enter the room, so I could put my two warrors between duke and nobles, summmon skeletons or whatever and cast protective spells (haste for sure is welcomed). I didnt have to fight Sarevok the same time. When I entered the room there was talk: Ok. we are all together bla bal bla and nobls turned into greater shapeshifters. When the fight was over I talked to Duke or Sarevok, and we were talking about evidences of Sarevoks crimes. Then I had to fight Sarevok (better use rest of monsters and skeletons - he has really powerfull hits (and use ranged weapons+spells) when you hit him, anyway he flees and you can not kill him (this time!).
