I am currently in chapter 2 of SoA. Is there any point to adding throne of Bhaal now or should I wait until I have completed SoA before installing. I have heard that ToB allows higher abilities but will they be applicable to a game already in progress?

I don't remember if you have to start a new game after installing TOB or not... From a story point-of-view, TOB is very much worth it, as it wraps up the entire Baldur's Gate series. The additions that the expansion brings is rather cool, too, in my opinion. I definitely don't regret the purchase.

In Chapter 2 your character/s are only around lvl 10 - 16 (depending on your class of course) which is pretty low. Too low to take advantage of high level spells and abilities so it's not worth installing ToB for this reason. However, if you'd like to raise your xp up to this point, there's a funky little dungeon called Watcher's Keep which has more to offer than ANY other area you can access in chapter 2 and it IS worth installing ToB for this.

small print :(

i suppose i should warn you that WK is also harder than any other area you can access in ch2. good luck

I'd install it now. Not only will it raise the experience cap but it will also mean you can use the useful function pressing tab to highlight doors/containers/items on the ground. You can continue your current normal SOA game once you have installed TOB so there's no reason not to install it.

Yeah, plus you get the "Wild Mage" class and a few class fixes which I noticed. Mainly Swashbuckler orientated.
