I didn't beat TOB yet but I am close and decided to takes a break. So I started over to SOA and it took me a hour to choose which class. I try my best to be flexible as possible but I hate the disadvantages. So I finnaly picked a Archer and MAN HE"S GOOD good at melee combat! Devestating at ranged if the frontline is broken and my archer forced to fight upclose he will mop the floor with the enemy corpses!

1) Why are clerics mentioned in your title?
2) Archers aren't supposed to fight in melee. They won't last very well with their weak armour and weak skills. |
I frankly don't think archers are a viable class, unless you get a bow that makes its own arrows.
Why? Its ridiculous how much +3/+4 arrows cost (and I'm not even sure if +4 arrows exist.) |

Yeah, +2. Guess how many enemies that affects? ;)

Cleric is not a bad class to start with, then you donīt need to worry about getting Anomen to your party... I dont think there is is a single kit that is unplayable, sure there are disadvantages but they are not as dramatic as it may seem first. Kensai, being unable to wear armor may seem like a terrible choice, but they compensate it easily with their fighting skills. Aaah, but you knew that already.
Has anyone tried Wizard Slayer? I decided to take it and though the healing problems annoy, the dream of getting 84% protection from magic at level 40 pushes me on. Man, thatīll take a long time. +2 arrows arenīt really worth the money, I think. 40 of them for what, 600 gold? If your life depends of that slight +2 bonus whether your archer hits or not, then you've already done something wrong. Better spend the money elsewhere. Plus they are consumed faster than you believe. |
Pfft. Normal arrows already deal with most of the enemies in the game, including Dragons. +1 enchanted ones raises the "can-be-hit" bar to nearly 90%. +2 enchanted arrows can deal with at least 95% of anything. +3 enchanted is barely needed, and only used in exceptional cases. +4 enchanted( Gesen Bow) is only needed for 3 enemies in the whole of SoA and ToB... ...
Arrows are cheap too... 600 bucks is nothing... sell a Full Plate Mail and you can get 120 of them already. I bought all the enchanted arrows in the game for fun. |

Ah, but you mostly only need normal arrows in the beginning anyway, unless you count the Shadows in the Circus tent( buying one clip of +1 arrows is cheap).
