I'm in chapter 5 now and my party is as follows:
Male Character
Minsc
Jaheira
Imoen
Nalia
Anomen
But I havn't been able to start a romance with any of them, is there something special that triggers the romances that I have missed or what?

From the start, all those npc's will engage conversations with you. Through those you can start a romance. Did you offend anyone during those cons? Or is your rep very low?

No, my rep is 17 and I believe I was really nice to all NPC's (eccept Anomen whom I don't want to have a romance with anyway!)
It has just been very long since anyone has talked at all, not since the Asylum I think, I thought I maybe had missed some important quest or so, I havn't taken all quest in the right order or anything, and I still miss some from back to chapter 2...

Assuming an unmodded game, you can only romance Jaheira. Have you agreed to help Xzar yet?

Unfortunately, BGII's romances are a little... quirky.

Basically, its safest to let the romances go as far as they can in chapter 2/3, otherwise you can end up with them not working once you complete chapter 4 and 5.

Right, there are several conditions that have to be met to Romance a character.....

1) You have to have a romanceable character (Jaheira, Anomen, Aerie, Viconia)
2) You have to be Human, Half- Elf, Elf and maybe halfling
3) You have to respond appropriate to THEIR alignment
4) There are also some Romance Specific quests

There may be a few more conditions, but they are specifically character orientated.

I can give you in depth descriptions for Jaheira and Anomen romances, and can also recommend certain Romance Mods and New Characters that can be romanced if you want....

Among others, romances seem to depend on your race. For example, a half-orc has no romances in (unpatched) BG2. More precisely, romances seem to be race specific: a particular race can romace only particular NPCs. What's your race? The rest has been said by DJG.
