Premier of American Ninja Warrior tonight...

... anyone else planning on watching? It's great fun around our house... the world would be a better place with more people like Makoto Nagano :)

For those unfamiliar, here's video of Makoto Nagano completing the course. He was the second of three men who have completed it; there have been more than 2500 contestants. I love a game show where there's no guaranteed winner.

There is also a Women of Ninja Warrior competition; three women have completed that, one of them three times in a row.

My kids & I follow the Japanese version (although there is an English narrator). It's one tough competition & the athletic prowess of the serious competitors is amazing!
Good to watch, unlike Wipeout which is an exercise in humiliation imho.

I agree.. Wipeout is to Ninja Warrior what spam is to Filet Mignon.

Having watched most of the show last night, I had a couple of observations...
  • Shouldn't grabbing the sides of the quadruple steps be out of bounds and disqualification? I think it would be in Japan...
  • Warped wall? What warped wall? I'm pretty sure my 13-year-old daughter could clear that.
  • Top 30 times move on? Why do we have to have guaranteed winners? One of the things I enjoy about Sasuke is that there *is* no guarantee... in one competition, no one made it to the third stage, let alone the final one!
  • I really miss the water... having the competitors land on gymnastics mats is just... bleah. Where's the public humiliation?
  • Brian Orosco really needs to shave...
  • They did have some of the "non-standard" type of contestants... and like in Japan, they die quickly.
  • My kids and I agree... Makoto Nagano rules.

Makoto Nagano? No... he's a fishing boat captain. Spends a lot of time on the seas training for Sasuke (the Japanese name for the competition).

So much for him winning the pirate/ninja war... Oh well.
