Did the UK really beat the US to it??

Every email and website visited to be stored by the govt. for one year. Eek. I expected that the US would be the first to do this. I am surprised, actually.

Well, 1984 did take place in England, after all.

While GB is our Mom, there are many reasons we "moved out". You can find those reasons in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Considering that every inch of London (just about) is covered by CCTV cameras I reckon the Poms are pretty decent at playing Big Brother. You just don't hear as much about it.

I'm not suprised the US didn't do it first. If they did, it would have to be completely under the table. Our people don't even like the idea of being caught speeding by a camera. Which I don't understand, quite honestly. I mean, you catch robbers and violent criminals with security cams in stores, why not nail speeders with a camera? And you can throw out the "invasion of privacy" garbage. You're driving on a public road.

Not so - I believe it took place on Airstrip One, a province of Oceania.
