Music?

So, do you guys know of any good, easy-to-use programs to make/compose MIDI files for DC? (DC can use MIDI, right?) Methinks I need some music for my mod... :D

Re: Music?

It can indeed use MIDI, but it's been so many years since I've used them, I'll let Dinonykos provide you with an answer. If he can't recommend a good program (free being part of good), you should try looking at SourceForge. ;)

Re: Music?

Is there some other format you guys use for music? :D I am perhaps an old fashioned guy, I just thought "MIDI!" when I thought about making some music for DC...

I tried MP2 and MP3, except when you play one while another is playing already, they end up overlapping each other. At least MIDI knows when to shut up when a new one starts playing, except MIDI kind of sounds bad on newer sound cards, compared to older ones.

I've used Anvil Studio (which is free) for screwing around with MIDIs a bit (mainly butchering instrument choice for fun), but I haven't really ever done any composition on it.

Sorry, I think I used an old version of Cakewalk for the older stuff. The songs in Friedrich's Quest are all several years old. At the moment, I do not do anything with MIDI.
Perhaps one of the FRUA friends knows something?

Re: Music?

I crossposted with Jadefang. :) I think I will checkout Anvil Studio. Maybe I can use it to alter some others of my old songs.

However, if I find the time later in the year, I will probably try to record some "real" music for my design with some Renaissance instruments (or "emulate" a medieval sound with classic instruments).
Seems there are more free/cheap but good WAVE-programs out there than MIDI software...

Re: Music?

I use MIDI (or at least did for Dungeoneer) but I just downloaded what I wanted from one of the sites hosting free MIDI music.

There are a lot of MIDIs originally for RPG2000 and that ilk that work quite nicely. :)

I think I will try to compose my own music... (Let me apologize to all your ears and senses in advance ;) )

If my Mac has a microphone on it, perhaps I will try to make my own effects, too :D

Re: Music?

I plan on doing my own music for a design at some point. I have a shelved design set in the modern day that I did a little bit for. :music05: The music will be in mp3 format, not MIDI though.

I have done some of my own sound effects...I wonder if I can find them. At one point, I was going to do one or two effects per monster int the database. :D Fortunately, I got busy doing other stuff...I mean I can think of what to do for a bear or an orc, but for a green slime?:eyepopping:

Re: Music?

Hmm - how do you make MP3s? Is there a new way of making music directly to MP3, or is everyone recording themselves? :D
