Moving House

Hi,
I'm moving house either 21st or 22nd Jan (once the seller makes their mind up!).
Any good tips when you move?

Not so much of a tip, but it is a great way to get rid of all that junk you may have been hanging onto.

Why the move anyway?

Box things up by destination room, and label the boxes clearly. Also be sure to put "1 of 5" and so on on the boxes... hate to lose one along the way :(

Check around for friends who've got more brawn than brains and bribe them with pizza and beer to help with the move. Just don't provide the reward until the move is substantially complete ;)

And enjoy!

It is usually best to have the 'seller' make the payment through the entire month. That way you don't make a 'full' payment for only 9-10 days worth of occupation.

Good idea about the junk!
Do you keep boxes for games or just the CD/DVDs??

Move is to make sure our daughter can get into a good school, she stats in September, our local one at the moment is not very good.
It will also get us 2 miles away from work, so will save an hours drive each way (the way fule was going up last year it will save some money).
Plus it's a bigger house which we'd never be able to afford if prices hadn't come down!
Phew.

Well, I think a picture is in order!

I do keep some of the boxes for my games. The newer, small ones are nice.

Maybe you'll have time for a yard sale and make a few $$$?

When we moved last November we followed a '12 month rule' that is, if it hasnt been used in the last 12 months, get rid of it (either through ebay or giving away etc). We managed to get rid of a lot of crap, and made several hundred $ along the way.

We also found that packing a few 'necessity' boxes was good - i.e stuff that you are going to want straight away at the new place. for us, this was some basic food, cutlery, kettle, LOO PAPER! etc. those were the first boxes that went, and made life easier at the other end.

Of course, moving still sucks.
