Fallout 2: Temple of Trials and other questions.
Should be spoiler free, for those rare few who haven't played this game yet.
Ok at the intro area, the Temple of Trials in Arroyo. At the end you have to fight one of your tribesman hand-to-hand. I seem to remember being able to talk my way out of it once, but I'm not sure. All walkthroughs I've read don't cover this possibility so I'm wondering if it's even doable; anyone have a clue? Also, lacking sufficient speach skill/ charisma, is there as peaceful way to solve the Gecko reactor situation? Tried convincing the First Citizen, but my characters limited dialogue options just pissed her off and got me kicked out of the city, pretty much permanently. Sidenote: anyone notice that if you commit a "crime" in these games you tend to get shot to death rather than thrown into the local prison? (where there is one in any case) |
Re: Fallout 2: Temple of Trials and other questions.
Temple of Trials: If you have enough speech skill you can talk your way out of it by selecting certain options that will then show up. Be sure to ask the guy 'some questions' first.
I believe the Gecko situation isn't necessarily handled by speech/charisma. What's more important is to talk to people who care about the situation, such as someone else than First Citizen Lynette. ;) Aside from that, actually repairing the plant is a bit easier if you pass a speech check somewhere else. I'll leave it up to you to figure out the details! |
Re: Fallout 2: Temple of Trials and other questions.
I think I know who I need to talk to. If it is who I think it is, it came up when I talked to them with Vic in my party.
Glad to have some confirmation that the pugilism can be avoided. I was starting to doubt my own memory. Fortunately, the fight is easily won with even lack-luster hand-to-hand skills. |
Re: Fallout 2: Temple of Trials and other questions.
Easily won aye? You should try it with a non-combat non-speech character preferably with good natured as a trait. :D

Re: Fallout 2: Temple of Trials and other questions.
So, something resembling the second premade character (thief like I think he was) but with Good Natured, hmm.... might be worth a try.
Recently started a HtH character in Fallout 1, gave him the bloody mess trait just for kicks. Interesting to watch critters explode from being punched. |
Re: Fallout 2: Temple of Trials and other questions.
What do you mean by the "Gecko reactor situation"? The quest to fix he reactor (with the Hydroelectric Magnetosphere Regulator :D ), or the quest to optimize it?

True, but that's why we have character editors. And I was referring to the efforts to fix it with the Hy-Mag.

Re: Fallout 2: Temple of Trials and other questions.
I can remember talking my way out of the temple in one game. I think I had fairly high charisma and speech skill. Although I found getting to that point a little hard as I sacrificed combat skills and points to do so. Then it took awhile to build up the combat skills to fight geckos. There most likely is a minimum you can use to to get though the speech aspect without sacrifing too much of ones combat skills. Loved Fallout 1 and 2. I think I played with stats once so I could become a Porn Star.

Re: Fallout 2: Temple of Trials and other questions.
I've talked myself out of the Temple fisticuffs with a Charisma of 7 or 8, and Speech tagged. No additional points into Speech at that point.
ETA: I had the Gifted trait as well, so that should substract 10 skill point to all skills. |
