I installed Norton Internet Security 2007 and Norton System Works 2007 a couple of months ago (ungraded from plain Norton Internet Security 2005) and ever since my laptop has started to run more slowly and I often have this ccsvchost.exe error when I try and turn it off (something about a problem with memory and I end up with a NT system shutdown). I had a look at my processes just now and I noticed that ccsvchost.exe is taking up about 150MB of my memory. Anyone know how to fix this?? Tim?

Uninstall it, sorry but for me Norton = VIRUS!

I guess it is due to the fact that the first time I tried it, several years ago, I and many friends had just horrendrous experience with Norton and Solomon so we decided to never again use them. And to this date I haven't and from forums etc it seems that I have nothing to regret so far.

I hope things work out for you Mem, I would actually suggest that you go to download.com and check fro free versions and read the users and staff recommendations. There are many free options that actually is on par or better then the ones you pay for.

I still use Norton 2005, ever since the release of Norton 2006, things went downhill systemwise. I mean, the damn program is literally trying to control everything in your system, i've seen it delete downloaded files because Norton thought it was adware or something, amazing. All i want from an antivirusprogram is that it runs quietly in the background and does what it's supposed to do, which is prevent crap from entering my system, and not trying to manage my system, i can take perfectly good care of that myself.

Hey Mems,

I will check it with my techs downstairs but in the meantime try this (from a google search):

I have seen this due to service (Start>Run>service.msc) Symantec Core LC being stopped and type set to "manual." I started this service and change the type to Automatic. I also verified that the Symantec Event Manager and Symantec AppCore Service was started and automatic as well. Apparently this was due to installing the upgrade to 2007 without uninstalling the previous version.

I'm pretty sure I uninstalled 2005 but I'll give it a go anyway, thanks mate.

Well, NIS completely fecked up on me - whenever I would run a full system scan it would go on forever, and I was starting to have major problems with really slow bootup times and crashing on logoffs (I think it didn't like my VPN either). So I uninstalled it, with the view to reinstalling it - but since I've uninstalled it my laptop's been running SO fast again! I'm now wondering if it's worth reinstalling again or should I try and "downgrade" back to NIS2005 which worked ok for me. Any suggestions? Tim?

No suggestions?

Sorry mate only just saw the thread.

Hmmmm, That is strange as I havn't seen any performance problems with NIS 2007.

There is a patch release comming any day now with Vista support so im not sure if any performance problems have been addressed in there.

Go back to NIS 2005 for the moment and I will see what I can dig up.

Mind posting the Laptop Specs?
