You choose whether this one is about Bush or Kerry because it works either way.
Bush/Kerry is at an appearance with a group of school children. During the chat Bush/Kerry asks what the kids are learning today. The kids all chime in saying that they are doing vocabulary, so Bush/Kerry has different children say, spell, and then define each of the words. Tragedy is the last word on their list. Bush/Kerry tells the kids that this is a tricky word to define, and after it is spelled correctly, he asks for an example of a tragedy.
One child sites a school bus running off the road with kids being killed as her example. Bush/Kerry replies that that would actually have to be classified as a 'great loss.'
Another child asks about a man being killed in a car crash after his tire blows out riding down the highway. Bush/Kerry says that would actually have to be considered an 'accident.'
Finally a third child says what if YOU and your entire staff died when your plane went down while you were flying across the country. Bush/Kerry answers that this is a very good example of a tragedy, and then asks if anyone can tell him why it is such a good example.
One little boy raises his hand saying, 'OOH! OOH! I know, I know.' Bush/Kerry says OK young man, tell us why my plane going down with the loss of all on board would be a tragedy.
The little boy stands up smiling and proudly proclaims, 'Because it wouldn't be a great loss, and it certainly wouldn't be an accident.'
