Mindflayers are the toughest monster I have faced
in the game, someone always dies. That intellegent
draining is horrible. The best equipment to have when
facing these monsters is rods (notice the plural) of
resurrection!!!

You can summon a bunch of critters who attack them, and keep them busy. That way you can fire some arrows/magic missiles, and in the end kill the bastards.

Yup, examples being skeleton warriors and invisible stalkers (they will not be hit by the psionic blasts).

If you cast the Cleric spell Chaotic Commands on your characters it will protect them perfectly.
