Monkey idols in the serpent temple.

I think I remember now why it's been so long since I've played this...

I know the serpent idol is unnecessary. If you know the script, you're good.

However, the 4 monkey idols are used to get the rod.

3 are in chests. I have those.

The fourth is on a "Monkey with Object".

I went tot he room where you trigger the 6 trapdoors. 6 monekys fell out, none of which were the "with object" one. I killed them all with 1 elemental blast.

I have been scouring the snake temple for 3 days now, and I cannot find that monkey anywhere.

Is there some trick to getting him to come to you somehow?

Nope; there's a couple crevices that he likes to get stuck (and disappear) in.

*whistles* Hey Stackman! Over here!

What Stackman would say -- and what I do -- is stack up a few chairs on the elevator in the library, climb up them, and then jump over into the Serpent's Wand room.

Takes some tricky jumping; I do two columns of 3 chairs each so I can get a running start. Of note, taking this route doesn't activate the flame-throwing dragon fly, so you can just murder him in his sleep.

Stacking... Need I say more? :D

I sometimes find the monkey stuck by one of the doors in the section with the 5 doors and the coin slot, where you got one of the other idols.

Ready for this?

I found him.

He was at the back-door; he had fallen into the water where you go to get the SERPENT idol, and he had actually managed to enter the "unreachable" part of the area.

Or would have, if a spider hadn't been blocking his path.

Thank god for arachnids...

As far as the "stacking" is concerned, I have terrible trouble with attempting to climb stacks in this game. Glad it didn't come to that.

Finally to Shurugeon... time to start my powerleveling.

FYI, that last guy doesn't materialize inside the room with the other monkeys. He materializes in the hallway outside... there's no way to get him before he runs off.

Interesting spot that he got to! I don't think I've ever seen him there before. That's one of the good uses of the Spirit Eye spell... ;)

Glad you found it. Onward!!!

Re: Monkey idols in the serpent temple.

I've got my pair of assassins now, so I am about to install the patch to speed up gameplay (since I don't need to... er... abuse quest rewards anymore ;p).

That said, let me ask a question:

On the front page is an "unofficial" graphics patch, that can up the resolution of the game.

It also says that it fixes an error which makes objects almost unselectable on the 3D HUD.

When I first tried this game, I had that exact problem, and could only fix it by running the game in "Win98 compatibility mode" on the Software setting (which worked fine, but makes the game look even older than it's release date indicates).

Is there anyone out there who had the "selectable" bug on original installation, has since used the graphics patch, and has run the game smoothly after it, in D3D mode?

I just want to here an affirmation before taking a leap that could cause my game to go bonkers ;p.

I started reading this thinking I was on the Wiz 8 forum. I thought you were all nuts for a minute there.

This was the big love/hate game for me. The engine drove me crazy but I liked the game.

I wish someone would have modified the engine to make it easier.
