So do they or is it just in your head? My friends says that he is the best becuase he has Adidas. I have both (Nike and Adidas) and I am pretty good with both of them.
So I say that is all in your head! What do you think? [ 02-10-2004, 09:13 AM: Message edited by: Xen ] |
I think it's in your head. There are some differences in fit and feel, but those are secondary.
Unless, of course, I'm being paid to sponsor one pair or the other. In that case, they absolutely do make a difference. And they make more of a difference if you buy our socks, too... :D |
For me, it's imperative that they match my socks, shinguards, shorts, and at least the trim on my jersey. That's why I HAD to get the Diadora's, made of kangaroo. I mean, frankly, Genuine Kangaroo leather has style written all over it. And I've never even seen a Kangaroo (well, maybe once in the phoneix zoo, but it wasn't a very good angle, and the lighting was a bit poor...)

Some shoes are better than others, but it shouldn't be of influence on your game. If you suck, you suck, there's no shoe that's gonna change that. :D
|
I suppose you found that out pretty quickly Johnny! :D
|
Well soccer shoes certainly affect the game I play ;) - I play golf :D . If I wore soccer shoes those studs would make large dents in the green and sure make it harder for me to sink any putts :D .
|
Football boots do affect the game you play quite a lot I think - but it's like most things - once you get up to a certain quality level, any further improvement is going to make little or no difference in the way you play.
Badminton is my main sport. Now if you play with a £10 racket and then a £40 racket the difference is huge but you won't notice that much difference between the £40 racket and a £120 racket. |
Different football shoes DO affect how you play. 13 stud shoes are good for rigorous training while 7 stud shoes are good for actual football match. Long stud shoes are good for short passing, shooting the ball straight but quite hard for crossing the ball. Short studs shoes are good for crossing the ball and curving the ball while shooting. Also depends on the weather, long stud shoes are good when it's raining and when the ground is muddy. short stud shoes are good when the ground is hard.
Apart from that, the shoe thickness is also very important, for people who have " soft " leg. they need to wear hard football shoes while those that have " tough " leg can wear soft football shoes. hmm...need I to continue further? |

Maybe but certain technique like " screwing the ball " ( sorry I don't really know how to describe it ) can't be done unless you wear a football shoes.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I can curve the ball with bare feet too. I think it's called the banana shot.

no, it's not that. that banana shot is easy even a 4 year old can do that. the thing I said is hard to describe. why don't you come over and I'll show you johnny. :D
|
Oh sorry I didn't know even a 4 year-old could do that. I'll keep a look out for you at the next world cup then, Pele.
|
Hm...i think its practice that makes you better...i would suck if it wasn't for my hours of practice...but nifty shoes are nice too

Actually I am player/ manager for kashima antlers for 5 season and won everything. I was also the league top scorer for 5 season also. The japan FA see that I'm so good and they hire me as the japanese national team manager. Of course I guided japan to win the world cup 2002 when japan beat england 3 - 1 in final. I was the top scorer for that tournament. I think I scored 17 goals. See? I'm that good no?
Oh wait, this is championship manager. silly me. :D |

johnny is perfectly right, if you suck you suck :D
Better equipment mostly makes a difference for advanced or pro players, but at amateur level it's not that big a deal UNLESS as Vaskez stated correctly you are using lowest quality which will affect you even at novice level. Compare it to online-shooters: If you play counter-strike on a P90 with onboard graphics your game will lag and you will suck! If you play it on an adequate system you can rise high if you have the talent. Once you get to the pro level even such little things as improved mousepads will be able to give you a further edge over other players as talented as you. But better players you won't catch even if your system is high end and your mouse glides on a hoverpad :D |

I suck at soccer, can't even do that banana shot thing

Not really.
Football boots are turning into a bloody fashion statement e.g. 6 year old kids in white Adidas kangaroo leather boots. Bah! [ 02-12-2004, 11:27 PM: Message edited by: GokuZool ] |
Not to mention more than one pair of soccer shoes a season. My parents would never allow me to have more than one pair a season, let alone more than one pair of soccer shoes.
