Hello,
I'm looking into getting a small laptop for when I go away on a 6 week training course. I won't be taking my desk top with me, but I will want to watch DVD's and play some games. Can anyone suggest a good, small not to heavy machine that will be able to play somthing like NWN 2? Oh and won't cost the earth either!! :D I live in the UK. Thanks |
Such a machine does not exist, sorry.

Check out Dell's XPS. It ain't cheap, but no laptop that can play NWN 2 is going to be cheap.

Is dell the best place then?

Its where I would buy one of the best laptops available for a decent price.

Cool,
Thanks guys. |
All these seem to cost an awful lot!!
What about something like this? http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=119776 Under graphics it's got "ATI Radeon Xpress 1100" listed, I'm not sure what that means. If I can't get one to run NWN2 would this one run Tomb Raider Legends? System Requirements: Microsoft Windows 2000, XP Pentium 3 1.0Ghz or Athlon XP Equivalent 256MB RAM 100% DirectX 9.0c -compatible 64MB 3D Accelerated Card with TnL (GeForce 3Ti / Radeon 9 series) Microsoft Windows 2000/XP compatible sound card (100% DirectX 9.0c -compatible) Quad-speed (4x) DVD-ROM drive 9.9GB free disk space 100% Windows 2000/XP compatible mouse and keyboard. If so I could take the home computer with me. |
Laptops are always expensive. Unless you actually need a laptop, its always better to go with a desktop.
That said: http://www.alienware.co.uk/product_p...l_default.aspx |
I used the Alienware website and built a good machine for 1,900 quid.
That ebuyer notebook you linked doesn't have a capable graphics card for NWN, I don't think (not 100% on that though). |
Yeah it wouldn't be playable on that card. It would render but this game is an unjustified hog anyways. My Nvidia 6800 has issues with slowdown at times. My 7600 gt plays well though. The patches were an improvment, when it first went retail it was just horrible.
|
Oh well. maybe I'll give the lap top to my other half so she can play tomb raider!! Will that ebuyer run it, I'm not sure what it's ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 chip set relates to in terms of memory.

Found these http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/nbrange.html?X20
Are they any good? How good are the graphis on these? WIll it run "100% DirectX 9.0c -compatible 64MB 3D Accelerated Card with TnL (GeForce 3Ti / Radeon 9 series)" somthing that needs that? |

Intel Accelerated graphics is a horrible thing (in comparison to a real video card) but unless the app you want to run looks specifically for a video card, it should run. Not well, but I think it would run. |
Cheers Hivetyrant, I just don't know enough (anything) about graphics cards these days.
