I wonder what IW people think of Hak-Paks.

I haven't actually had the opportunity to use a hack pak because I haven't played beyond the included solo adventure(in chapter 2 now). I don't think I'll mind them though, but I do have a question.

Is it a hack in the traditional sense that will permanently change something throughout the game, or are hack paks specific to certain modules effecting nothing that doesn't try to access them specifically?

Haks effect indivual modules. You add haks to a module in the toolset. If you play a module that requires one and you dont have it installed in the hak directory then you may not be able to play the mod at all. The solo game or modules that do not require haks are uneffected by whats in the hak directory.

That's what I was thinking/hoping.

Chewie, I look forward to trying out your mod when I finish the solo. :D

I'm more of a designer than a player, but I love hak packs. In zip form, they aren't that big, and really stamp individuality on a mod (instead of having the same-creatures-different-name syndrome that happens all too often without them.)

So in conclusion,

Yep, you summed it up for me! The next mod in the series I have envisioned will have some haks involved for sure.
I just downloaded a mega-placables hak that has a bunch of various placeable haks in one. Great stuff for less than 10 mb.

Cool! Just wait til it goes final, so I can work all the bugs out and finish the revisions, unless you don't mind hunting bugs and typos.

Don't mind them at all, and I like how much they can add to a module if done correctly. However, it would be nice if they could somehow be packaged with the module so that you don't have to worry about several files...

Don't mind HakPaks, though it would help if more people used the Custom Content Self-Installer (which compresses the Hak Paks) to save people having to download the Hak and put it into their Hak directory.
